“Life is surprisingly quiet at speed.” – Car and Driver, 2006 Ferrari F430 Spider review, June 2005

Car and Driver's writer and reviewer, Aaron Robinson, heaped praise on this Ferrari's looks:

“Wide, squat, and busied up with air dams, exhaust tubes, and mesh screens, the spider resembles the Millennium Falcon from the back as it screams past morning commuters in their microcubes. As with the F430 coupe, Ferrari credits both Pininfarina and Mini Cooper chief designer Frank Stephenson with the spider's look.”

… its performance:

“At 124 mph, the spider is sucked to the road with 245 pounds of downforce and tracks with precision. Corners are quick work; a hand twitch cuts the apex, and the body stays flat. Smoothness takes longer to develop, especially with the touchy carbon-ceramic brakes.”

… and the driving experience:

“A transparent polycarbonate wind blocker between the seats helps keep hats in place and the conversation two settings below shouting. Automatic exhaust-pipe valves turn up the wail under hard acceleration, but they open later in the spider--4000 rpm instead of 3000--if you set the manettino to 'low grip.' The manettino is the rotary switch on the steering wheel that lets the driver fit the suspension, traction control, and stability settings to the mood. With the manettino, shift times also vary. In 'race,' they bang home in as little as 0.15 second for that extra-quick lap time.”

Offered here is an especially appealing 2006 Ferrari F430 in Grigio Silverstone over Rosso (and black). Delivered new in California, the Ferrari's odometer reads 35,050 miles, or fewer than 2,500 miles per-year on average since new. An added distinction: One of the prior owners was the Rusty Wallace race team. A single Carfax-reported accident eight years ago involved impact with a parked car. Whatever damage may have resulted (Carfax provides no specifics) has long since been professionally corrected with no sign of the damage—or the repair—remaining.

The exterior gunmetal-gray-metallic (Grigio Silverstone) paint perfectly finishes the flowing, forward-raked body with its sculpted front grille, quad side air-intakes, and quad taillight rear valance; the color makes the body appear hewn from a solid block of metal. The paint is in exceptional condition free of damage, wear, or surface defects, as befits a car of this pedigree. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) Panel fit and alignment is also in keeping with the high standards of the legendary Marranello builder; there is no damage to any sheet metal. Front fenders display the yellow Ferrari graphic, the front fascia hosts the similar emblem, while the rear deck mounts the venerable Ferrari lettering. The mirror caps are embossed with F430 in the style of the historic F40 cars. All cabin glass and lighting lenses exhibit flawless, clear condition. The "spider" fabric roof is perfect. Factory, 5-split-spoke wheels feature yellow prancing-horse emblems and showcase red-painted brake calipers and drilled brake rotors. Michelin® Pilot Sport tires--225/35/19 in front, 285/35/19 in the rear—are mounted.

Inside the car, the combination of red and black is both stylish and alluring, an Italian design statement on a classic Italian sports car. In particular, the red leather dash, console (with deviated black stitching), bucket-seat inserts, door trim, and a-pillar trim is stunning. Seat inserts include ventilation “buttons” reminiscent of early Ferraris. The driver-focused instrument cluster features a large, yellow-faced tachometer, and the steering wheel hosts Formula 1-inspired multifunction controls, including the paddle-shifters for the car's F1 gearbox. Prancing horse emblems—on carbon-fiber trim between the seats, on the speaker grille, and embroidered on the seatbacks—are flawless. (Part of the upgraded stereo system, added JL Audio® speakers are incorporated in the rear-cabin trim.) It is significant understatement to describe the cockpit as a very pleasant driver environment.

The rear-hatch glass offers tantalizing views of the Ferrari-branded 4.3-liter, 490-horsepower V8; open the hatch and the full view of the mid-mounted engine comes into focus. Twin red air-supply intakes, chassis support members, and performance exhaust headers all convey in metal the brand's racing heritage and inspiration. Viewed from below, the comprehensive chassis-protection panels are all in place on the underside of the car. These panels have obviously fulfilled their role as evidenced by scrape-marks from road hazards. There is no sign of rust. The car's carbon-fiber rear diffuser is also free of damage.

The Ferrari's original data and identification tags remain mounted. A Ferrari-branded car cover is included in the sale.
