“Porsche's last air-cooled driving machine” - Hagerty

At its introduction, Motor Trend noted: “The new Carrera 4S… wraps the all-wheel-drive Carrera 4 in a body based on the 911 Turbo, with its flared rear fenders and open-vent front air dam. The 4S also offers the functional value of the Turbo's wider track, high-performance four-piston vented disc brakes, and pressure-cast 18-inch alloy wheels. Visually, all that's lacking on the 4S is the whale tail rear wing of the Turbo; the 4S shares the speed-dependent extendible rear spoiler with the other normally aspirated 911s.”

“For '96, the 3.6 gets a boost in output to 282 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque-increases of 12 and 7, respectively-and boasts a solid improvement in midrange performance. These improvements are due to a new Varioram variable-intake system, larger intake and exhaust valves, and a modified ignition system and valve timing.”

Offered here in a classic Zuffenhausen color, Grand Prix White, with a black partial leather interior is a 1996 Porsche 911 (993 series) 4S. Originally sold at Sportique Motors, Ltd., Huntington, New York, the car currently shows 103,337 miles, or just 4,134 miles per-year on average since new. The original factory window sticker (showing all standard and optional equipment and pricing), original paper VIN/options sticker, and owner literature are included with the car, and photos of each can be viewed in the accompanying gallery. Also included is a link to the 5-page Carfax history report showing regular and consistent maintenance by professional shops over the car's history. The white exterior paint remains in excellent condition across the entire car. Porsche paint-application technology has long been regarded as among the industry's most advanced, and the results produced are obvious here. All body panels—including the bespoke lower-front fascia with its bespoke air intakes, the racing-style mirrors, the added rear spoiler (similar to the Turbo model's rear spoiler, but of a slightly different design)—are free of indications of wear or damage. (The Carfax report shows an accident with unspecified damage 20 years ago which clearly has been completely repaired long ago.) Carbon-fiber-finish protective panels have been added to the A pillars. All cabin glass and all lighting lenses are clear and undamaged. Badging, including a rear “Carrera 4S” emblem with the red “S” and the Porsche crest hood emblem, is properly in place. Highly regarded Ruf® performance wheels (with colored Porsche-crest centercaps) have replaced the factory wheels. The open-spoke design gives excellent views of the red-painted, Porsche-logo brake calipers and drilled brake rotors. Michelin® Pilot Sport Sport high-performance tires are mounted.

The car's interior is in exceptional condition in virtually every respect, an indication of meticulous owner care and added investments over its life. Surfaces are unscarred, colors are true, graphic markings are crisp, and wear indications are minimal-to-non-existent. Carbon-fiber trim panels have been added to the lower dashboard, the door trim panels and armrests, the center console, and the backs of the added racing-style seats. These seats are upholstered in black leather with perforated center inserts (the rear jump seats do not have the perforated inserts). Cabin floors are carpeted in black and protected with Porsche-embroidered protective carpet mats. Pedals are of billet aluminum. The Porsche-crest, carbon-fiber-trimmed steering wheel (with top-dead-center marking in red) frames the instrument cluster with the full range of white-faced VDO® gauges with brushed-metal bezels set in custom carbon fiber. A Sony premium audio head unit replaces the factory radio. The shift lever for the 6-speed manual transmission is mounted on the console forward of the Porsche-branded emergency-brake handle set in carbon-fiber trim. (Note: All carbon-fiber trim in the car is of the same pattern and hue, and was professionally installed.) The car's front trunk is perfectly clean and tidy. A carbon-fiber chassis-stiffening bar, DieHard® battery, and original space-saver spare tire are located here.

The car's rear-located 3.6-liter, boxer-style, 6-cylinder occupies a very clean and orderly engine bay with no sign of aftermarket modifications. All components—including air conditioning—are properly in place. Hoses and wiring are correctly routed. Viewed from below, the chassis is straight, complete, and free of damage as might result from too-aggressive driving styles. Factory-installed protective panels remain in place. The lower surfaces of the engine are clean and there is no indication of rust.

The car's original front seats, rear spoiler (with original model-designation emblem), and factory wheels and tires are included in the sale, as is all the documentation mentioned above.

While the more than 155 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '96 Porsche 911 4S in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.

Owning and driving any Porsche 911 is a special experience, and something of a privilege. While every Porsche enthusiast has a shortlist of their favorite 911s through the years, a 993-series 4S is very high on a great number of those lists. The last-year example offered here would easily find its way onto those lists, but only one fortunate enthusiast will be adding this beautiful and highly capable sports car to their garage. We envy that person already.
