At a time when fuel and emission standards was becoming more strict, GM was still cranking out big displacement V8 engines and putting them in big cars like this Grand Prix Model J. The big Pontiacs were 'out of sight' and you definitely didn't want to be a 'sucka' who didn't have one……well, until the fuel crisis when the lines at gas stations were 'heavy'. Long swooping lines, large doors, and pronounced grilles and headlights were all tell tale signs of a GM A-Body luxury coupe. In the case of this highly original Grand Prix Model J coupe this is a Third Generation Grand Prix.

When this car was brand new, Personal Luxury Coupe interiors were slightly different than today's definition of a luxury coupe interior. Despite the evolution of car interiors, the interior in this Grand Prix is very nice with many great features. From the driver's seat you see a symmetrical layout of round gauges, warning lights, and vents. All that is surrounded by 'African Crossfire Mahogany' that has a slightly lighter tone than the wood trim found on most cars at the time. Plush bucket seats are in amazing condition given the age of this car, and a large majority of the interior shows extremely well from the carpets to the trim.

The exterior is highly original. The body still wears the original paint other than one small area on the passenger's side front fender that was carefully repaired and hardly noticeable. The vinyl top was replaced due to the fact that the original top was beginning to show some wrinkles due to age. Other than those couple things, the exterior shows very well from the trim to the paint.

Although fuel and emissions standards were becoming much stricter at the time, this Grand Prix offers a 400ci V8 and rear wheel drive. The TH400 mated to the 230hp V8 shifts smooth helping with that floating, luxury ride that consumers wanted at the time. Our client has owned the car for 25 years, putting few miles on it when first acquired. The car was in dry storage for approximately 15 years, but since then our client had the engine looked over and a few maintenance items done. The carb was rebuilt, points were cleaned, vacuum lines were replaced, and fluids checked and changed.

This car is 'far out' - an awesome example of a GM A-Body. It's ready to go with a luxurious interior, sleek styling, and a powerful V8 under that long hood.
