One of the enjoyable aspects of our business at Garage Kept Motors is uniting buyers with classic vehicles that won't stretch their budget beyond its limits. Finding solid cars that combine condition, reliability, performance and affordability can be a challenge. But finding one of these “quality driver” classics can also be very satisfying. In this vein, we are happy to present this 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 2-door convertible.

Born at the Chicago manufacturing plant, the car came off the line with Ford's 390 cubic-inch linked to a C-6 dual-range, column-shifted automatic transmission. Optional equipment also included power steering, dual exhaust, and tinted glass. The car was originally painted in light beige. Its whisky-colored vinyl interior and upholstery were done Ford's “Emberglo,” which goes well with the quality burgundy exterior repaint. The car currently wears thin-stripe whitewall tires on period styled-steel wheels. Also added (and functional) are a below-dash gauge cluster (coolant temperature/voltmeter/oil pressure) and a Clarion audio unit with CD player.

Overall condition of the car is very good for its age. The interior is especially nice. The exterior older repaint shows some chips but maintains excellent gloss, Overall, the body is free of dents, dings and notable scratches. Badges—including the distinctive three-stripe “390” identification and multiple “Galaxie 500” trim pieces—are in excellent condition. Other chrome trim—including that surrounding the stacked headlights and on the bumpers—is all very presentable. The grille exhibits a few minor dents. The trunk retains its vinyl floor and spare-tire cover, a spare, and jack. This Galaxie 500 convertible is fully cruise-ready and only needs a new owner interested in some top-down, mid-1960s rock 'n roll fun.
