Attention: Land Cruiser fans: You've just found, quite probably, the finest BJ60 Land Cruiser on the internet, and indeed, one of the finest examples available anywhere. Like any boast, that statement requires proof. Fortunately, this 1985 light-blue metallic, diesel BJ60 is long on documentation proof for its stunning reincarnation.
Purchased out of Canada via Michigan by the current owner in 2014, this legendary vehicle underwent a painstaking four-year transformation to its impressive current condition. “Better than new” is no exaggeration whatsoever. Since Land Cruiser owners (and shoppers) generally are a knowledgeable crowd, one not given to taking slick advertising claims at face value, here are the facts to support the superlatives for this example of the legendary Land Cruiser. Documentation—including many invoices from respected Land Rover parts suppliers like New Hampshire's CruiserParts.net, Specter Off–Road, and Cruiser Corps—is available to back up all of the following.
The body refurbishment… Original frame replaced with a rust-free match from Texas; full body shell also replaced with a rust-free Texas copy; front fenders, upper and lower tailgates, inside wheel wells all replaced with rust-free examples sourced from Texas (original hood had no rust and was retained); new hood insulation; all rubber body mounts replaced with new; all body parts prepped and repainted in light blue, a 1984 Toyota factory color, resulting in a virtually perfect finish; front bumper end-caps replaced; rare JDM split rear bumper mounted; all new emblems including the rare “G” diesel emblem; new front grille and headlight doors; new bulbs and lenses at all points; new windshield and tailgate glass and rubber seals; all-new weather-stripping throughout; new chrome roofline trim; door sill belt moldings rebuilt with new splines and clips; new hatch struts; and a new antenna.
The suspension and driveline refurbishment… The entire suspension—including the leaf springs, sway bar linkages, and the steering stabilizer—was replaced with new Old Man Emu parts; new grease-able and adjustable shackles from Iron Man with polyurethane bushings at all points; both front knuckles rebuilt and re-greased with new gaskets, axle seals, studs, cone washers and inner felt seals; front and rear differential fluid refreshed; transfer case and transmission fluid refreshed; new power steering lines (and fluid refreshed); new front brake rotors (on replaced hubs), calipers; new master cylinder; all new brake lines and hoses; rear brakes rebuilt with new shoes; emergency brake rebuilt; new OE oil pan and gasket from 13BT (for larger capacity)installed; fresh motor oil; radiator professionally re-cored; new radiator support, hoses, and fan shroud; new batteries, new Pirelli Scorpion tires all around; fresh alignment; exhaust system professionally refreshed; light-load 2” lift kit (from CruiserParts.net) installed.
The interior refurbishment… All new carpet padding including the rear cargo area; new dash cap (no longer available); grey vinyl on front bench seat and rear lower bench seat professionally replaced; new sound deadening material mounted to augment existing material; new sound deadening material for the ceiling installed with a new fabric headliner; new wiper motor; new rear seatbelts.
