1958 Ford Fairlane 500 Sunliner

The accolade "best car of its kind on the planet" is perhaps overused in the classic-car world. But it is no exaggeration whatsoever when referring to this Torch Red (original factory color) 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 Sunliner. The “Fairlane” name pays homage to Henry Ford's 56-room “Fair Lane” estate in Dearborn, and “Sunliner” was Ford's convertible-top descriptor back then.

Among its singular achievements, this Sunliner was part of the invitation-only display at the 2010 Carlisle, Pennsylvania All-Ford Nationals. It has also been invited to multiple concours events, winning of the Governor's Cup at the New Hope, Pennsylvania show in 2012. Even more significant, this Ford reached the pinnacle of Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) status progressing through each level to be honored with the vaulted Grand National Senior Award in 2012. Recognizing how meticulous the AACA judges are when critiquing entrants, especially at the Grand National level, you know this car actually is, the best of the best.

This remarkable Ford drop-top began its transformation to stardom as a rust-free car from Texas. It received a frame-off restoration in 2008, performed by Jerry Miller, a recognized expert in mid-fifties Ford convertibles. Since restoration, it has been driven only 1,900 pampered miles. The car features a 332-cid "Police Interceptor" V-8 engine, and sports a white soft-top that, when retracted, is covered by a red convertible-top boot. The car's interior features a classic two-tone, red-and-white color scheme with a red padded dashboard. Well optioned with Kelsey-Hayes chrome wire wheels, American Classic whitewall tires, Ford-o-matic automatic transmission, Town & Country Signal-Seeking Radio, electric clock, tissue dispenser, dual exterior mirrors, dual exhaust deflectors, and power top, windows, steering and brakes, this Sunliner would've turned heads when it was new, and it's still doing just that.

Probably needless to say, everything on the car is not only in working order, but in first-class condition down to the smallest detail. Even the radiator anti-freeze tag is correct. Be sure to peruse the more than 240 high-resolution photographs of this amazing, offering on GarageKeptMotors.

This is a rare opportunity to acquire a piece of Ford history, truly the best car of its kind on the planet.
