As car enthusiasts we enjoy driving all sorts of different vehicles. Getting behind the wheel of some sort of unique vehicle always puts a smile on our faces. Chevrolet's brochure for the 1967 Chevelle/Malibu lineup proclaimed that what one might see in the brochure will “probably bring on a severe compulsion to go driving.” We like the idea of that, and looking at a classic Chevelle like the car you see here with an eye-catching color combination, and a V8 under the hood makes us feel compelled to drive it. The vehicle you see here is a 1967 Chevelle/Malibu Sport Coupe finished in Black over Medium Red interior, and showing approximately 25,834 miles on the mechanical odometer.

According to the trim tag on the car, this Chevelle left the Kansas City, MO production plant in Ermine White over a Medium Red imitation leather interior. As you can see, the red interior remains, however the exterior color has been changed to gloss black. Oftentimes we hear that compared to other colors, black paint makes a car look so much sleeker and cleaner after a wash or a detail. This may be true of black vehicles, but it also means that it is easier to see flaws in the paint, and the lines of the vehicle look much crisper.

You'd be hard pressed to find evidence of the original white paint, which tells us that the color change was completed methodically. The exterior has been left with a stock look other than a hood with a cowl, and a lack of the factory decorative hood trim found on '67 Chevelles. The exterior trim shows well and is all present, there are a few areas where the trim is faded. The rear bumper has a number of dents and dings in it, however the front bumper is in very nice condition. Factory wheels include chrome hubcaps and chrome beauty rings, and are wrapped in new white letter Hankook tires.

There is something extra cool about an interior that contrasts so strongly with the exterior paint color. The red of this interior looks great next to the black paint, and we imagine that it looked great with the original white paint color. Bucket seats and a console paired with the three spoke steering wheel give the interior a sporty feel. Leaning more toward a luxury feel is the faux woodgrain trim, and chrome switches, including the push button radio. The interior is missing a few small trim pieces, and the center console mounted clock. Easy fixes for someone who wants to bring the car back to a completely original look. The interior shows well from the carpet to the seat upholstery, and the unmistakable later-60's styling.

Under the hood is a 327ci V8 mated to an automatic transmission. With “36” being the second and third digits of the VIN, this car left the factory as a “Malibu 8 cylinder.” It's not the bigger displacement 396ci V8 but it is a V8 nonetheless, so the nice V8 rumble, and torque can be enjoyed. The engine itself was painted recently in orange engine paint, and features chrome valve covers and a chrome air cleaner. Aftermarket spark plug wires, and an Edelbrock carburetor are other engine bay highlights. Under the car we see some corrosion on suspension parts, while it looks like a few areas of the frame and the driveshaft were spray painted with black paint.

If you're seriously compelled to go driving like the Chevelle brochure claims, this car is one to consider in order to satisfy that urge. Please call if interested or e-mail with specific questions. Thanks for looking.
