Based on the Mercedes Benz alpha-numeric process of naming vehicles in relation to the engine size, this beautiful SL may get away with being called a SL 580. That's your first hint that this is a special car that has many great Brabus tuning components. Brabus offered not only individual parts for Mercedes Benz vehicles, but also tuning packages to choose from. From just a few items, to full packages in which every area of the vehicle received some sort of upgrade or custom treatment. This amazing Benz had the full catalog thrown at it. From a custom stereo setup, to engine modifications and wheels this car has it all. To begin with, this car was one of 1,450 Silver Arrow Edition cars produced by Mercedes Benz to commemorate the Silver Arrow Grand Prix race cars that made a name for themselves in the 1930's. (1,450 SL500's got the Silver Arrow treatment, while 100 of the SL600's received the treatment.) Brabus then put their touches on the car, and being a full Brabus spec car, this SL500 may be rarer than you might think. To find another car like this, in this kind of condition, a worldwide search would have to be done. The vehicle you see here is a 2002 Mercedes Benz SL500 Silver Arrow tuned by Brabus. It's finished in Silver Arrow metallic with a black and silver interior, and shows approximately 52,016 on the digital odometer.

Exterior styling has been largely left alone by Brabus. The Silver Arrow cars came with AMG body components, which gave them a slightly sportier look, as they are already slightly different from the standard SL items. Brabus did however add 19” two piece wheels in a split-6 spoke style which are called the “Monoblock VI”, though they are two piece wheels. The wheels are wrapped in Michelin tires and have Brembo brake calipers peeking out from behind them. The Brabus exhaust consists of two angled tips rather than the stock single tip, so the opening in the bumper has been enlarged slightly.

The interior of the car is one area that Brabus certainly had their hands on. A quick glance, and most of what you see is styling and components that were present in the Silver Arrow edition cars. Engine turned instrument cluster trim, silver gauge needle trim, two types of wood trim, engine turned shifter trim, two tone seats, and the special Silver Arrow dashboard panel. What Brabus has added can be found behind the seats in the form of a Brabus sound system enclosure which is trimmed to match the interior. Subwoofers and amps along with an aftermarket CD/Radio, and speakers are part of the sound system. The interior as a whole is in very nice condition. The seats show a bit of wear but the rest of the trim and carpet show nicely.

The biggest change in the car is found under the hood. A Brabus built 5.8 Liter V8 has found its way into the engine bay, which is bigger than the standard 5.0 Liter V8 engine. With a bigger displacement comes more power, and a slightly deeper engine note. The engine benefits from Brabus components like camshafts, valve springs, upgraded cooling system, exhaust, and air intake. It is said that when new the engine would have produced right around 400 horsepower, which in a car like this should leave anyone driving this car with a smile on their face.

Does this car deserve to be badged as an SL58? Or SL 580, based on the Mercedes Benz alpha-numeric naming system? We'll let the next owner decide that, we think that the bold “Brabus” lettering on the trunk lid say enough. Anyone who knows Brabus and what they are capable of will only need to see those letters to be impressed. This is a very special car that has been well kept over the years, and if you've ever had a desire to own a Brabus tuned SL, this is your chance, don't miss it!
