Compact and mighty, the Barracuda is a fun car that fit the bill for those looking for a sporty car rather than a family sedan. Plymouth proclaimed in their advertising that “there are plenty of fish in the sea, but there's only one Barracuda.” The Barracuda is a compact car, and as most of you know, is a car that is about the size of the first generation Mustang. The Barracuda and the Mustang were released just two weeks apart in April of 1964, and forgotten by many is that the two cars shared many similar styling cues and features. Both are fun cars, both were available with a V8 under the hood, and both were sure to turn heads. Enthusiasts who may be looking for something different than the first generation Mustang but like the Mustang's size and the idea of a V8 under the hood should consider the Barracuda.

The car you see here is a 1966 Plymouth Barracuda finished in White over a red interior, and showing approximately 5,581 miles on the digital odometer. A 273 cubic inch V8 mated to an automatic transmission provide the oomph to take this sports car down the road. This car has been restored and treated to a number of tasteful upgrades. Eagle-eyed MOPAR fans will spot the “Formula S” badging on the front fenders which refers to the performance package which offered the 273ci V8 engine, a tachometer, and suspension upgrades. Not only was the Formula S package a nice upgrade from the standard Barracuda, but in addition, this car has a number of tasteful upgrades which have been nicely integrated.

The car's color is a gloss white, which has been professionally applied, and shines with a nice even gloss throughout. Badging, lighting, and chrome and brightwork are in great condition which adds to the allure of the unique styling of the Barracuda. 14” alloy wheels are a nice upgrade from the stock wheels and are wrapped in meaty tires.

Upgrades abound inside the car, with the most obvious upgrade being the high back bucket seats sourced from a late model vehicle. Once seated, the range of Auto Meter gauges which replace the stock gauge package are immediately clear, as is the modern Pioneer stereo and speakers. A “performance indicator” gauge is still mounted on the floor on the transmission tunnel and near an aftermarket center console which includes a cupholder. It's obvious that the interior has been well kept since the restoration, the seat upholstery, carpet and headliner are in great condition with only a few blemishes showing on the driver's seat.

Small rectangular badges mounted on the fenders include stylized lettering that proclaim there is a “V-Eight” under the hood. The engine bay is very tidy, and as the fender badges say, there is a “Super Commando” V8 engine making its home there.The engine is coated in orange engine paint and topped with a chrome air cleaner cover. An 8 ¾ rear end, posi-traction, disc brakes at the front of the car, and an automatic transmission are mechanical highlights of the car. The tidiness continues on the underside, where it is evident that attention to detail was used in this area during the restoration.

As the counterpart to the Mustang, the Barracuda offers many of the same attractive features and similar styling to the world famous pony car. For MOPAR fans, or those looking to get into something different than the more common Mustang, a Barracuda like this one is a viable option. The Barracuda offered here is a very nice example of a mid-60's Barracuda thanks to a detailed restoration and a nice combination of upgrades.
