There is a lot of talk about GOATs these days, especially with Tom Brady's recent retirement from the NFL. But let's face it the original GOAT is really the Pontiac's GOAT, also known as the Great One, yes the GTO, short for Grand Turismo Omologato. Loosely translated from Italian into English as homologated grand touring car, or street legal race car. The nickname the GOAT some believe came from the fact that the GTO, like a goat, could eat up everything in sight when racing, however the reality is it was a nickname given because it just sort of rolled off the tongue better then GTO when referring to these cars, such as “Reggie's GOAT really tore it up on Woodward this last weekend!” And so the moniker stuck. But let's face it, Pontiac's GTO being the origin of the muscle car era, is truly the Greatest of All Time, in terms of cars of this genre! Garage Kept Motors is very excited to offer this 1965 Pontiac GTO for sale.

The GTO has been painted in its original Montero Red finish. The paint is well applied over well executed body work and presents with a nice shine. The chrome bumpers have been re-chromed and the original stainless and related body chrome is original showing some light patina but displays with a nice luster. The overall presentation of this car is very clean, and the original factory style Rally I wheels with chrome center caps wrapped in Futura GLS Super Stock raised white letter radial tires really sets this car off. Inside the trunk has been lightly detailed with black paint with no indications of any rust through.

Inside the red interior has been restored with new seat upholstery, carpet, headliner, chrome armrests with new upholstered pads, rear package tray and new window cranks. The steering wheel has been upgraded to a wood rimmed three spoke chrome Grant steering wheel that matches well with the woodgrain trimmed dash. An Auto Meter tach has been installed in the dash gauge pod, and a set of Auto Meter gauges are mounted under the dash to monitor engine oil pressure and coolant temperature. The factory AM radio is still present.

Under the hood is clean and nicely detailed. An era correct Pontiac 389 V8 sits between the rails and has been upgraded with an aluminum Edelbrock Performer intake and carburetor with electric choke, MSD electronic ignition and a set of high performance headers, and set of #98 cylinder heads with the 68cc cylinder heads top the cylinders adding a little extra compression over stock. This hot set up is kept cool with a heavy-duty Harrison four core copper/brass radiator and a 8 bladed factory fan with clutch. Power is transferred to a four-speed transmission to a 10 bolt limited slip rear differential.

The chassis and under body are lightly detailed and are well maintained. The A-arm and stabilizer bushings have all been replaced along with new shocks front and back. This GTO features power steering with manual four-wheel drum brakes. The 2.5” dual exhaust has “X” crossover to equalize exhaust pulses and intended to improve top end power and the pipes flow through a set of Walker Super Turbo mufflers and tailpipes that exit out the rear of the vehicle. The exhaust note is deep at idle and provides a full performance sound under throttle but does not drone in the interior at cruising speeds. The frame and floorboards are free of any rust through.

This is a very clean Pontiac, and the red on red color combination is a real head turner. The subtle upgrades to the engine enhance the already stunning performance of these legendary motor cars. This car will be sure to draw plenty of smiles and thumbs up as you cruise the local strip and car shows, and certainly will bring a smile to your face is you run it through the gears under full throttle.
