Never been raced, but it is a Haas cup car.

After years of racing in the various lower NASCAR tier levels, Ford Performance Technical Center (FPTC) out of Concord, North Carolina made the move to the NASCAR Cup Series by introducing a NASCAR Cup Series version of the Ford Mustang in 2019. The Next Gen Cup cars introduced in 2013 allowed the manufacturers to pattern the cars to closely resemble production vehicles and more closely maintain the age-old NASCAR adage of “Win on Sunday and Sell Monday!” Of course, these cars share very little with their production versions. The Gen-6 cars, like this one, are all steel bodied cars, as opposed to the Gen-7 cars that incorporated carbon fiber panels.

Featured here for sale is a 2020 Stewart Haas Racing Cup series Mustang. As a backup car, this vehicle has never been raced and is in very good condition. The car is still wearing the 2020 season livery, which is black in color with Mobil logos, “Ford”, “Mustang” script, and a few other sponsors. Maybe not in NASCAR, but this car is still very much ready to earn the pole position, perhaps in an SVRA event. Without question, the Mustang most represents the look of the production counterpart, compared to the Chevrolet and Toyota race versions. Under the steel sheet metal is a purpose-built race car designed and built by the FPTC. The Gen-6 cars feature fully proportional bodies that are bolted straight on the chassis. Putting the focus on the chassis, tires, and the driver make these cars bulkier, faster, and tougher putting a little more of the “stock” back into stock car racing similar to the early days of NASCAR.

Under the hood sits a 358ci pushrod V8 and features a wet sump oil pickup and a true dual exhaust. This setup produces 741HP (550 on restrictor plate tracks). Power passes through a Rankin 4-speed manual transmission with straight-cut gears to a Ford 9” rear end with 3:22 gears. The rear end features a single-pass cooler to keep the differential lubricants cool, and avoid any power-robbing heat from stealing horsepower before it hits the track. Like the production Mustangs of the time, this Ford has four-wheel disc brakes, and rack and pinion steering. That is where the similarities end between production and the race-designed and built race car, as the chassis and roll cage are purpose-built for the various NASCAR Circuits. This leaves little flexibility for teams to interpret the rules. Penske shocks keep the massive Goodyear Eagle racing tires firmly planted to the paved oval tracks.

This is an amazing collector car commemorating Harvick's 2021 season. While Harvick was unable to finish in first place in 2021, he scored three top-10 finishes on super speedways ranking him number 5 in the series. With a total of 2361 points, this car helps signify a successful 2021 season. Please call if interested or e-mail with specific questions. Thank you for looking.
