Considered a step above the GTO and Chevelle of the same generation, the Oldsmobile 442 provides muscle car enthusiasts with upscale trimmings, textures, and materials. With a similar coke bottle design as its competitors, the 442 is a powerful muscle car that was produced by the Oldsmobile company between the 1964 and 1987 model years. Introduced as an optional package for the US-sold F-85 and Cutlass models, also offered under the Oldsmobile name, it became its own model line from 1968 to 1971. This development spawned the Hurst/Olds in 1968 but was then reverted back to an optional package through the mid-1970s. The 442 name was revived in the 1980s on the rear-wheel drive Cutlass Supreme and in the early 1990s as an optional package for the new front-wheel drive Cutlass Calais.

Derived from the vehicle's original four-barrel carburetor, four-speed manual transmission and dual exhausts, the “4-4-2” is quite an accurate description for Oldsmobile's prime muscle car. Originally badged with the hyphenated numerals it wasn't until the 1968 model year that the name was shortened with the removal of the hyphens and was simply thereafter referred to as just the “442”. During the 1968 through 1971 model years, the 442 became its own separate model line. Although this second generation of Oldsmobile had a similar appearance to previous years, it was the first year for the use of side marker lights and front outboard shoulder belts and is noted as the last year for vent windows on hardtops and convertibles. They also had unique rear bumpers with exhaust cutouts and special tips.

Highlighted here is a beautifully restored 1969 Oldsmobile 442 Sport Coupe. Exhibiting an aggressive black and red color combination, this muscle car has a lot of physical prowess. The enthusiast favored stripes and tasteful chrome wheels really set this vehicle apart from many of its peers. The black paint has a nice finish and is complimented well with chrome moldings that edge many of the body lines. In addition, the added subtle half-moon headlight shields give this 442 a unique oncoming look.

Matching the exterior, the custom interior of this Oldsmobile is as sporty as the outside appearance. Concentrated mainly in dark or black hues with red inserts and accents, the interior of this vehicle is truly one-of-a-kind. Upon closer inspection, one can see that this vehicle has undergone a few modern upgrades. Among the original woodgrain accents throughout the interior, you will also find updated gauges with digital readouts and an aftermarket Pioneer stereo with custom Oldsmobile logo rear speaker mounting.
Under the hood is a 400ci V8 with an automatic transmission. The previous owner has noted the following updates and completed services: air shocks, air induction, alternator, radiator, battery, fan blade, chrome valve covers and new front tires.

Although this Oldsmobile may not be the infamous Hurst/Olds, this 442 is still quite desirable to many muscle car enthusiasts and this example is quite a site to see. Whether you carefully scroll through the many photos or check this vehicle out in person, we strongly urge you to consider this 442 for your next purchase.
