Debuting in March 1955, Chevrolet's Advance Design trucks were the predecessor to their Task Force models. Looking very much like the company's newly redesigned passenger cars, these pickups featured a stylish wraparound windshield, hooded headlights, and an egg-crate grille while the traditional pontoon-style fenders were eliminated. This generation of Chevrolet 3100 trucks were the first no-excuse pickups from GM and have been noted to have been produced in much smaller numbers compared to the previous generation of Advance Design trucks, so fewer of them are available today.

The same basic design family was used for all of Chevrolet's trucks including the Suburban, panel trucks, canopy express, and cab overs. Using the same front end sheet metal, and to a lesser extent the cab, on all its trucks except the cab overs, Chevrolet offers three main sizes of this truck: the half-, three-quarter-, and full-ton capacities in both short and long wheelbases.

Presented here is a 1957 model year Chevrolet 3100 sporting a purple over purple with white top configuration. The exterior paint shines nicely, but does show some age with some slight surface rusting around the edges of a couple body panels. Sporting the iconic white top, this truck has many external characteristics which include a factory produced white visor and 5-spoke Cragar SS wheels.

Powering this truck is a 235ci inline 6-cylinder with a 3-speed manual transmission. Showing just over 87k miles on the odometer, this truck has a lot of life left to give to its new owner. The chassis and undercarriage appear to be in stock condition and have aged but are visually intact and functional. The engine does indicate that it has had a fresh coat of stock Ford blue engine paint with slight overspray within the engine compartment. This truck does also spot a wood lined truck bed that has not been scarred by any abusive hauling.

Inside the cab, this truck is pretty bare bones. With a vinyl wrapped steering wheel and faux, button tufted, diamond seat covering, this Chevrolet is nothing special but shows well. There is a small metalwork patch on the front inside of the passenger door that might turn some buyers away but overall, both doors appear to be solid. The previous owner has included some spare parts and a shop manual for the next owner.

Although this truck isn't a fully restored show truck, this Chevrolet will provide any owner a nice classic vehicle experience. If you follow the collector vehicle market at all, you know well that trucks are still quite desirable, and this specific 3100 would be a great starting truck for any collection.
