Make room for a well preserved California relic in your stable with this '66 Mustang. The thought of California sun is a welcome thought for most folks in the US, especially for those of us who experience winter. We can't promise that this car will bring oceanside, California-like warmth to you in the winter months, but it would certainly fit in with your collection. Ford advertised the '66 Mustang as a new improved model for '66. Although the average person wouldn't notice the changes made from the years before, the sales of the Mustang peaked with the 1966 model year.

As we mentioned this particular Mustang is a California car which was well maintained, meaning that it is a nice solid car. No remnants of 'rustbelt winters' past. In addition, this car is largely a survivor, other than the paint, and a few small regular maintenance parts which were fixed over the years. This car actually sat in storage from 1984 until mid-2020.

The handsome looks of the early Mustang are unmistakable and finished in the factory color of Sauterne Gold (Code Z), or at least a very close variation of it. The car was repainted quite a number of years ago, and by the looks of it, the repaint may have been done before the car was put away in long term storage. The paint does show some age, but the chrome trim all around the exterior of the car is in great condition. The exterior trim also includes a not often seen luggage rack. We don't want to go as far as saying it is a rare piece, but it's a nice period correct option. The underside of the car is solid thanks to spending so much time in the warm California sun. There are a few parts that show some surface oxidation, but finding an original, solid '66 Mustang can be a tough task these days.

Inside the car is a pair of bucket seats finished in the original color of Parchment (Code D8) with Ivy Gold accents throughout the interior. It is believed to be all original interior, and by the looks of the wear shown throughout we don't completely doubt that. Slide in behind the large tri-spoke steering wheel and the automatic transmission shift knob is close at hand. The symmetrical gauge layout is easy to read, simple dashboard switches easy to use, and there is plenty of room inside. A Pioneer stereo has been added in place of the factory AM/FM radio.

The 289ci V8 found under the hood delivers a nice bit of power to the tune of 200hp. Mated to a C4 Automatic transmission, the car is a great cruiser. Since being taken out of its long hibernation, the car was treated to a number of maintenance items. A rebuilt rack and pinion, full tune up, new battery, new brakes, and new tires were recently installed on the car. This pony is ready for long rides.

Ford's clever marketing for the '66 Mustang targeted a broad range of potential buyers from men in their 50's to young women. Maybe that's why the Mustang was so successful during that era. We can't say for sure, but what we do know is that this Mustang which we are proud to offer for your consideration, is a well maintained California relic. This pony car is sure to fit right in with your stable.
