For Mustang fans, 1969 represented a notable highpoint for performance offerings. Along with Shelby models and the new Boss 429, Ford also released the first-generation of the Mustang Mach 1. The Mach 1 was only offered in the Sportsroof fastback design, it came with upgraded suspension and a host of visual extras. This included the option of a “Shaker hood”, intended to feed cool air directly into the engine. The hood scoop was the hint of the real power that lay beneath the hood. Ford offered the 351-cubic inch (5.8-litre) Cleveland V8 as the basic option for the Mach 1. This came with 250 hp and 355 lbs-ft of torque but could be upgraded to 290hp and 385lb-ft with the 'M-Code' option. These upgrades transformed the Mustang into a serious performance car, propelling the Mach 1 to set almost 300 speed and endurance records. If not enough the Mach 1 would also win back-to-back SCCA Manufacturer's Road Rally Championships.

Not wanting to mess with a good thing and the success of the Mach 1 in 1969, Ford left the 1970 model relatively unchanged. Ford engineers made some subtle changes including a wider front grille which saw the inclusion of dual-beam headlights, and the rear of the Mach 1 gained new honeycomb detailing. Even the engine options remained largely unchanged, other than the M-Code version of the 351 Cleveland V8 being pushed to 300hp. With sales of more than 40,000 examples, over 20 percent of all Mustangs sold in 1970 were the Mach 1 versions.

The car featured here has been in the same ownership since 1985 and well loved by the previous owner and his family. The car is very solid with rust free floors and trunk. An older repaint presents well with a deep luster, with several small blemishes and chips throughout the finish from garage or parking lot contact. The correct Mach 1 stripes and emblems are present and correctly applied. Additionally, the previous owner added a factory hood tachometer, rear window louvers and rear deck spoiler. The undercarriage while unrestored appears well maintained. There are newer brake and lines, gas shocks, and front stabilizer bushings. The dual exhaust features an X-pipe, performance glass pack mufflers with chrome tailpipe tips. A set of aftermarket traction bars have been installed to reduce any wheel hop under hard acceleration.

Under the hood is the famed “M” code 351cid V8 with 300hp. The engine compartment is lightly detailed and features chrome valve covers. Upgrades include aftermarket tube headers, aluminum intake and the oil filter has been relocated with a remote filter kit. The battery has been relocated to the trunk over the right rear tire to further aid traction. Power is transferred to a 3-speed automatic pack to a Ford 9” differential. BF Goodrich T/A radial tires mounted on factory Mach 1 rally wheels is where the rubber meets the road.

Inside the interior seat upholstery and carpeting have been replaced and door and rear panels are original and show some slight wear. The headliner has been upgraded to a custom black suede one piece unit. The dash features the factory gauges and dash mounted clock Additional fuel and volt gauges have been installed in roof pillar to keep eyes up and on the road with a mechanical oil pressure and water gauges mounted in the console. The sound system has been upgraded to a Pioneer AM/FM/CD with Auxiliary input for your phone or MP3 player. The rear seat folds down to reveal a custom carpeted trunk. The previous ownership added red shoulder seat belts, red mustang logo floor mats to bring out the red trim in the front bucket seat.

This is a great car who brought its previous ownership many miles of driving and hours of family togetherness tinkering and caring for this muscle car. This Mustang is ready for a new forever home to take it home to another family's garage to be enjoyed. Please call if interested or e-mail with specific questions. Thank you for looking.
