(Please note: If you happen to be viewing this 1960 Porsche 356B Cabriolet on a website other than our Garage Kept Motors site, it's possible that you've only seen some of our many photographs of the car due to third-party website limitations. To be sure you access all the more than 170 photographs, as well as a short start-up and walk-around video, please go to our main website: Garage Kept Motors.)

"Since the 356 was Porsche's first model (debuting in 1948), and it would stay in production for a fairly long period of time, every 356 tells a part of the story of the early years of Porsche. As the most popular variant of the car, the 356B gives us a particularly interesting cross section of company history. The 356 … is a 1960 model, notable for being the first of the 356s that would incorporate upgrades that would lead a few years later to the 911. Indeed, early 911 sketches were made alongside the plans for upgrading the 1960 356.” - TopSpeed

Offered here is a 1960 Porsche 356B Cabriolet in non-metallic dark gray over dark red leather. Originally Mesissen blue, the car is the beneficiary of a superb professional restoration. This is a stand-out example 356B showing 18,752 miles since its rebirth.

Viewed from any angle, the exterior gray repaint highlights the curvaceous body. (To best assess the quality of the driver-quality of the paint, please be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) The bumper trim and overriders, headlight and indicator-light trim, grille trim, hood trim, windshield trim, side mirror, door handles, lower-body trim, engine-compartment louvers, and taillight trim (including the unique “stand-up” reflectors) all shine well. The black convertible-top boot (snaps included) is good, as is the Porsche crest emblem on the hood and the gold “Porsche 1600” badge in the rear. The factory-original, 10-slot, steel wheels (with chrome trim rings and unmarred chrome wheel covers) are sound with Dunlop® period-correct tires. The front trunk is clean and complete including the original jack, original spare wheel (mounted with matching Dunlop rubber), correct carpeting, and restored original fuel tank are in good condition. The lower battery compartment shows very well.

The car's interior has been restored. Dark red leather covers the properly trimmed and mounted door panels, and the bucket (and rear jump) seats are in place. Floors and cabin walls are covered in matching dark gray, low-pile carpeting (all edge-trimmed in dark red), including on the rear panels on the jump seats. A 3-spoke, classic black steering wheel (with Porsche-crest center emblem and leather-trimmed rim) frames the correct green-numeral, chrome-bezeled VDO® instruments set in the body-color-painted, red-leather-padded metal dashboard. The dash center includes heat and ventilation controls, and a period-correct, push-button, AM-FM radio. The shift lever for the 4-speed manual transmission is mounted on the floor and topped with an unadorned black shift knob.

Under the rear engine cover, the 1600-cc, horizontal 4-cylinder engine has been well restored. All component surfaces and the engine bay are very clean. Factory stickers are in place. (Be sure to sample the engine note in the included video.) The lower surfaces of the engine and transmission and the suspension components are visual focal points. Please see the multiple photos of the undercarriage to assess driver-quality condition.

Factory-mounted information and identification tags (including the Reutter body-identification tag) remain in place.

While the more than 170 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '60 Porsche 356B Cabriolet in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.

This Porsche 356B is certain to stand out. And as 356 owners know well, this model—particularly the open-air cabriolets—still delivers a delightful driving experience on the road.
