In 1971 the Mustang came out with a longer leaner look that when combined with the SportRoof body style was a powerful looking design, which was the only way you could get the iconic Mach 1. The 1971 Mach 1 Mustang included many special features over the base Mustang. It used a different grille/bumper combination than the base Mustang which featured a honeycomb grille that housed a pair of driving lamps. The front bumper was covered with urethane that was color-keyed along with the fender moldings to the Mustang's paint. The non-functional NASA hood was standard equipment and was painted along with the lower body in either black or argent, depending on body paint. All Mach1s came with color matched dual racing mirrors and were adorned with a front fender Mach 1 decals and a small Mach 1 callout on the rear deck just above the pop-open gas cap. The combination was a winner with Mustang fans and remains one of the most visually stunning of the Mustangs that looks fast just sitting still.

The Mustang featured here just exudes Ford Performance, painted in FOMOCO colors with metallic blue and argent. The brilliant paint is well applied over professional body work and pops with a deep gloss. The factory front chin spoiler and rear deck spoiler only further enhance the bold styling of the Mach 1. The American Racing AR23 5-spoke aluminum wheels wrapped in Cooper Cobra raised white letter radial tires are subtle upgrade that further enhances the performance stance of this Mach 1. The underbody of the car has been lightly undercoated and is rust free and the rear floors have been replaced. The chassis is otherwise unrestored but appears well maintained and features a new gas tank.

Inside the black interior has been cosmetically restored with new seat upholstery, carpet and headliner. Some great subtle Day 2 upgrades include the B&M shifter, AutoMeter gauges, Sanyo AM/FM/Cassette Tape player and dual rear speakers. The dash is factory equipped with a tachometer and 120 MPH speedometer.

Under the hood sits the 351 V8 that has been upgraded with an Edelbrock aluminum intake, Holley carburetor, Mallory ignition and an electric fan helps keep this set up running cool. Ford Performance Racing chrome valve covers, oil pan and open element air cleaner bring a little shine to the nicely detailed engine compartment that is ready to display at the local car show or cruise in. The engine rumbles deeply through headers into 2.5” dual exhaust into chamber style mufflers into chrome tipped tailpipes. This will make a great car to show and cruise the boulevards of your hometown.

This Mustang Mach 1 is just another great example of the many Mustangs we have in the “corral” here at Garage Kept Motors. Please call if you are interested in the vehicle or send us an email if you have specific questions.
