“Fun. Maybe the most important discipline of all.” - Porsche 944 period magazine-advertisement headline.

Offered here is a 1989 Porsche 944 in Guards Red over black. Many Porsche enthusiasts celebrate the purity of the driving experience of the 944 cars. And it's fair to say, Guards Red/black cars—the most popular colors by far back in the day—hold a special appeal. This 944 is a very nice example of one such car that most definitely appeals to the eye, and driver's emotion.

Originally delivered to Hinsdale Motor Cars of Hinsdale, Illinois, the 944's odometer currently shows 128,555 miles, which is respectable for a car that rolled off the line as a 1989 model.
The Guards Red single-stage exterior paint retains very good gloss and consistency across the entire body, including the boxed fenders, “flag-style” side-view mirrors, and sunroof panel. Properly maintained, there is no limit to how long Porsche paint can look great, as this 944 demonstrates. Factory-applied, anti-stone-chip coatings remain applied forward of the rear wheels. The Porsche-crest hood emblem, rear-deck, black “944” emblem, and lower-rear “Porsche” lettering are all in place. A fitted, Porsche-branded car cover (a reliable sign of fastidious-owner care) is included in the sale. Black treatments surrounding the cabin glass and on the door handles are in excellent condition; there was no chrome on 944 bodies. Cabin glass—including on the expansive rear hatch is clear and free of damage; lighting lenses are also in very nice condition. The classic “phone-dial” original 15-inch alloy wheels with Porsche-logo center caps are in excellent condition.

The condition of the interior surfaces is exceptional. The dash is free of the cracks that often plagued these cars. Black leather upholstery on the 911-style bucket seats show some age, but free of damage, rips, and serious fading. Door trim appears virtually as-new with original-style factory speaker grilles in place. The factory-optioned leather-trimmed steering wheel—identical to that used on 911 models—has been superbly maintained. The full complement of analog instruments are in place on the new-style dashboard seen on later 944 models. An upgraded, replacement Blaupunkt Aspen audio head unit has perfectly replaced the factory Reno radio. The console hosts the shifter for the 5-speed manual transmission, sunroof switches, sliding-door over a perfectly unused ash tray, and armrest with storage. Cabin floors (including the cargo area) are covered in black carpeting in very good condition with matching black carpet mats featuring red-embroidered Porsche logos.

Under the hood, the 2.7-liter Porsche inline 4-cylinder commands a clean, detailed, well-ordered, and complete engine bay. No aftermarket modifications are noted. Viewed from below, the chassis is straight and complete with no sign of damage as might be the case from too-aggressive driving styles or extensive track use. All components are properly in place.
The car's original identification markings remain in place. The sale includes the original window sticker, and fitted car cover as well as a pile of maintenance documentation.

Highlights from the car's original window sticker (which is included in the sale), some of the factory-installed equipment included:
Exterior color code: “G1” (Guards Red); Interior code “LT” (Black partial leather), 4-cylinder, 2.7-liter, 162-horsepower engine, 5-speed manual transmission, 7x15 cast alloy rims, heatable and electrically adjustable outside mirrors, Anti-lock braking system (ABS), power windows, central locking system, removable sunroof, alarm system, Blaupunkt Reno radio, and partial leather seats.

As one would expect, the 944 carried on the tradition of Porsche vehicles that offer visual and emotional appeal. Porsche enthusiasts celebrate the purity of the Porsche 944 driving experience, and with a nice 944 like this one, you too could experience the feeling of driving such a clean example of a Porsche.
