“Power of Ten: The V-10 Viper carved its own path” – Hagerty, October 2021

In revisiting the '94 Viper RT-10, Car and Driver wrote: “The RT/10, displayed as a concept in 1989 and fast-tracked into production for 1992, is fundamentally a first-generation Mazda Miata designed by a brass band's worth of star-spangled idiots. Every input is rewarded with a predictable output. The Dodge's six-speed shifter snaps into position with welcome precision. Its steering exhibits a magnificence that no modern car can touch; the steering wheel, with no airbag, speed-reads tarmac Braille and spits the translation directly into your hands. Brake feel could be generously described as wooden, but the binders never lack for power, and the modern Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 rubber fitted to later stock-size wheels on our test car help bring the proceedings to a quick halt.”

The magazine's conclusion: “A bold anachronism from the very beginning, the RT/10 is an elemental testament to the pleasure of mechanized movement.”

Offered here is a first-generation, California-owned, 1994 Dodge Viper RT-10 in black over gray. “Designed, Developed, and Manufactured in the Motor City by Team Viper” as stated on a body tag, this car has traveled just 9,678 miles in all, or fewer than 375 miles per-year on average since new. That low mileage combined with proper owner-care accounts for the car's stellar condition.

The car's exterior black paint retains original gloss and factory condition overall with only very minor swirl marks. Body panels—including the front-hinged engine-access hood, lower-side exhaust covers, open-rear front fenders, and more—are free of abrasions, cracks, or any impact damage. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, please be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) The black soft top is also free of rips or tears. Factory badging includes the Viper-emblem in front, “Viper R/T10” fender graphics, and “Dodge” and “Viper” identification on the rear bumper with a Viper emblem on the trunk lid. Cabin glass and all lighting lenses are clear and uncracked. Black HRE® 3-piece, 18-inch wheels are mounted with Michelin® Pilot Sport 275/35 Z-rated performance tires. The stock 17-inch, 3-spoke chrome wheels (with Viper-logo center caps), mounted with Michelin Pilot Sport 275/40 performance tires, are also included in the sale.

Inside, the color theme is gray with black accents. The well-bolstered, contoured bucket seats are upholstered in gray leather; sculpted door trim combines gray trim and black carpet inserts; black carpeting covers the cabin floors with matching Viper-branded carpet mats for protection. A 3-spoke, leather-trimmed, matte-black steering wheel with red Viper-logo center cap frames the unmarred gray dashboard hosting a full array of white-faced analog instruments including a 180-mph speedometer. The center stack includes HVAC dial controls and the original Chrysler-branded audio head unit forward of the console-mounted shift lever for the 6-speed manual transmission and the handbrake lever. (Please view the close-up photography in the gallery to assess the excellent condition of the Viper's various interior surfaces.)

Under the clamshell hood, the 8-liter, 10-cylinder Viper-branded engine, resplendent in its red matte finish, occupies a very clean and original-appearing engine bay. Viewed from below, the car's chassis is similarly clean and free of damage. The dual-exhaust routing and lower engine and transmission surfaces are visual focal points. (To best evaluate the condition of undercarriage surfaces, please review the gallery photos shot from below.)

The Viper's original factory-mounted identification and data tags remain in place. The sale includes the owner's manual, service manual, and related literature as well as the original wheels and tires mentioned earlier, a car cover, and several storage bags.

“Viper” is synonymous with mega-power and old-school, eye-popping performance. Those who prefer bland, cushy, tech-laden “sporty” cars should probably look elsewhere.
