“This vehicle really takes a step back toward the heritage of Toyota with the old FJ40 and the heritage of the original SUV." – James Lentz, Toyota group vice-president of marketing

Car and Driver: “Toyota's extensive experience with off-road products provides the FJ Cruiser with proven mechanicals-a solid axle in the rear with suspension pickup points tucked well out of the way and an unequal-length control-arm front end with similarly protected coil-over springs and shocks. A quick look under the car reveals a clean view between the wheels, with bash plates placed under the most vulnerable components.

The tractive effort for this cubic canyon crawler is provided by Toyota's 4.0-liter V-6, which produces 239 horsepower and-more important-a broad spread of torque (peaking at 278 pound-feet) courtesy of a variable-valve-timing system. That's with 91-octane fuel. You'll get less power on lower-octane fuel if that's all you can find in the boonies.”

And as to the FJ's off-road character: “Using the A-TRAC system to attack a challenging off-road course Toyota set up on a ranch near Ojai, California, we were able to negotiate some seriously cratered sections along with boulder-strewn uphill climbs with the FJ Cruiser's OE tires set at their roadgoing pressures. Considering the stock Bridgestone Duelers wear street-biased all-terrain tread patterns, we were sufficiently impressed.”

Offered here is a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser in Voodoo Blue over a black-and-blue interior. Showing 74,399 miles currently, the FJ has traveled just under 5,000 miles per-year on average since new. The vehicle's condition is impressive on many scores, not least of which is the complete absence of off-roading scrapes or scars anywhere, including on its underbody panels. The only hiccup on its Carfax is a minor front-end damage report from three years back for which proper repairs were made with no indications of either the damage or the repair remaining.

The exterior finishes show extremely well: the highly desirable Voodoo Blue non-metallic paint is original and uniform on all body panels; the white roof (the color reflects the sun's rays) is free of noteworthy flaws; the matte-black trim (fender flares, body molding, roof cargo rack, spare-tire carrier cover, front grilles, and window trim) is unscarred; the matte-silver bumpers, side mirrors, front underbody protective plate, and front-grille surround (a design harkening back to the legendary FJ40s) are in excellent condition. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, please be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) Factory badging—including the “Toyota” front-grille lettering and Toyota-logo emblem and “FJ Cruiser” model identification on the tailgate—is in place. Cabin glass (darkly tinted in the rear) and all lighting lenses are clear and free of cracks. Six-spoke, 18-inch Fuel® wheels (with embossed logo and branded center caps) are mounted with BFGoodrich® All-Terrain T/A 255/70 raised-white-letter tires (mounted blackwall side out).

The interior is as original and well-kept as the exterior; the design is purposeful and utilitarian. Black, hard-plastic trim on the wide-opening “suicide” doors is undamaged. Front buckets and rear bench seats are upholstered in vinyl-trimmed hard-surface textured black fabric. Black rubber matting covers the hard-finish cabin floors, with a gray FJ-branded carpet mat in place in the rear cargo area. A 3-spoke, brushed-metal-trimmed black steering wheel with Toyota-logo center emblem frames comprehensive analog instruments on the textured-black-surfaced-and-brushed-metal-trimmed dashboard. Atop the dash are three special off-roading instruments including a compass, elapsed-time indicator, and vehicle-attitude gauge. The center stack—painted in the Voodoo Blue body color—includes the infotainment screen and HVAC controls. The shift lever for the automatic transmission and the 4WD transfer-case selector lever are mounted on the center console. (Please view the close-up photography in the gallery to assess the condition of the Toyota's various interior surfaces.)

Under the hood, the stock 4-liter Toyota V6 commands a clean engine bay. All components are present and there are no indications of aftermarket modifications to the powertrain. Viewed from below, the chassis and components are similarly original, clean, and undamaged. (To best evaluate the condition of undercarriage surfaces, please review the gallery photos shot from below.)

The FJ Cruiser's original identification and information tags remain in place.

While the more than 175 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '07 Toyota FJ Cruiser in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.

An Edmunds FJ Cruiser owner titled their review “Can't part with it.” Here's how they put it: “It is a great off road vehicle as well as a great highway vehicle. I have owned over 50 new vehicles in my lifetime pretty much covering the gamut of cars and trucks. The FJ is the only one that has actually appreciated in value rather than deprecated. I am a car junkie and every time I see something new that I get excited about trading the FJ for, I change my mind. There's nothing out there that can compare with the FJ.”
