“A good truck can be the start of a long friendship.” – Period GM Pickup Truck magazine ad headline

Hagerty characterized the attractive design of these GM pickups this way: “Whether Chevrolet or GMC, the General's third-generation, 'square-body' trucks were a dramatic departure from the company's previous efforts. The third-gen models featured squared-off front and rear fascia, subtle body contours honed by wind-tunnel testing, a more accommodating and ergonomic interior… a style decades ahead of its time.”

Offered here is a refreshed, tastefully upgraded, and lifted 1983 Chevrolet K10K 4WD short-bed pickup in black over black. The truck has traveled just 236 miles since the restoration work was completed.

The exterior black paint (resprayed as part of the restoration) was professionally applied, and the results show: perfectly smooth finish and even, high gloss on every surface, with no indication whatsoever of fading or other damage. All sheet metal panels are free of dings and dents. The chrome trim—on the front bumper, fender wheel-opening trim, side mirrors, window trim—is all in excellent condition; the brushed-metal trim piece on the tailgate is undented. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) The truck's front grille (with bowtie emblem removed) and tailgate are free of noteworthy imperfections. A cowl-induction raised hood is mounted, and the truck's rear bumper has been removed for a clean look. The cargo box floor shows minor wear (under the fresh black paint) from normal use. Lighting lenses and cabin glass—including the sliding rear window—are perfectly clear and free of cracks. A moderate lift kit is installed. Factory rally-style, silver-painted, 15-inch, steel wheels with chrome trim rings (and Warn® front locking hubs with correct rear “Chevrolet Motor Division”-labeled hubcaps) are mounted with BFGoodrich® All-Terrain raised-white-letter 33x12.5 LT raised-white-letter tires.

Inside, the truck's “respectfully refreshed” theme continues. Literally every surface, every control, every aspect of the interior fully merits that description, including the black dashboard wearing its correct “Silverado” emblem. Black vinyl-trimmed-fabric seat upholstery is free of wear indications or damage. The black, 4-spoke, brushed-metal-trimmed steering wheel frames the classic, GM-square-design instrument cluster. The surrounding brushed-metal trim pieces have been re-done (here and on the door panels as well), and the full complement of analog instruments (including a transmission-oil temperature and engine oil-temperature gauges added on the lower dash) are replacement AutoGage® units. Ventilation and heating controls are slide-levers. The B&M® Pro Ratchet shifter for the automatic transmission and a matching B&M lever for the transfer-case selector are floor-mounted side-by-side. Fresh black cabin-floor carpeting is installed. (Please view the close-up photography in the gallery to assess the condition of the Silverado's various interior surfaces.)

Under the hood, the big-block 454-cubic-inch V8 topped with a black-finished, Chevrolet-branded, open-sided air cleaner (to accept cold air via the cowl-induction hood) commands a clean and well-ordered engine bay. Good views of the custom exhaust headers give a hint of the truck's performance. All components—including the MSD® ignition system, Griffin® aluminum radiator, Merlin® heads, and TA Performance® steel fuel lines—are correctly mounted. In the same way, viewed from below, the truck's chassis is complete, clean, and undamaged. Views of the lower side of the engine, the properly installed lift-kit components, frame-stiffening enhancements, LPW® rear differential, and the full-length RaceMagnum® dual exhaust are visual focal points. (To best evaluate the condition of undercarriage surfaces, please review the gallery photos shot from below.)

While the more than 145 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '83 Chevy K10 in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. “Chevy Trucks are taking charge.” That was the themeline in Chevy Truck magazine advertisements back in the day. Seeing this tastefully refreshed '83 Chevy K10 big-block still standing proud nearly 40 years later shows that ad claim remains accurate, with one added word: “Chevy Trucks are STILL taking charge.”
