"Hotter than Texas chili." 1984 Camaro Z28 magazine advertisement headline

The ad went on: “'Hot.' A three-letter word that's synonymous with Z28 in the vernacular of the enthusiast."

“What's so hot about Z28? Everything. Styling. Performance. Comfort. Powered by a track-proven small-block V8, Z28 delivers throaty bursts of power when you need it. And the optional High Output Package gives Z28 even hotter credentials. It goes around corners, too. Thanks to a refined torque-arm rear suspension and new, precise front geometry with upper and lower control arms, Z28 has recorded a lateral acceleration of .85g on the GM Proving Grounds.”

“Simmering shape. Z28 looks as quick as it goes. Sleek, curving lines and a 62-degree raked windshield help provide a low drag coefficient of .339. And Z28's front air dam helps reduce nose lift, while aiding steering response.”

Offered here in light-blue metallic over blue is a 1984 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 with the optional High Output Package 5-liter V8 mentioned in the ad. What's more, the car's odometer shows just 31,000 miles, or fewer than 825 miles per-year on average since new. There have only been two owners. The car's service parts identification tag remains in place and identifies every option on the car including the L69 code for the engine (all options decoded online here: http://www.chevy-camaro.com/chevy-camaro-RPO-Codes-year.php?year=1984) There's even a handwritten maintenance record of every oil change from 1984 through 2000. In virtually every respect, the Z28 presents very much as it would have back in the showroom.

The exterior light-blue metallic paint (code 22) was professionally refreshed in the factory color in 1999. All surfaces match correctly. The lower-body silver paint is equally impressive, as are the satin-black hood insets, headlight surrounds, grille, and rear insert panel. There is virtually no chrome on the car; all window trim, door handles, and related trim is matte black. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, please be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) All tinted cabin glass—including the two dark-tinted, lift-out roof panels—is clear and free of cracks, as are all lighting lenses. Factory badging is all in place including the Camaro emblem in front, color-matched “Z28 5.0 Liter HO” rocker-panel emblems to the rear of the front wheels, and “Z28” (with bowtie) emblem in back. Factory-original, 15-inch, 5-spoke alloy wheels with “Camaro” center caps are mounted with BFGoodrich® Comp T/A performance tires.

The interior blue color theme perfectly complements the exterior of the Camaro. Door trim combines angled-stripe fabric and blue carpet lower panels. Original blue carpeting (protected by matching carpet mats) covers the cabin floors. Upholstery on the front bucket and rear bench seat includes the angled-stripe fabric with center light-blue inserts. A 3-spoke, black, leather-trimmed, sport steering wheel with Camaro-crest center frames the complete analog instrumentation including both a combination speedometer-tachometer as well as a stand-alone tachometer. Instrument and control-surface graphic markings are crisp and unfaded; lenses are clear. The center stack includes the factory sound system and HVAC controls, while the black console hosts the shift lever for the automatic transmission, power door-lock controls, hatch-release button, and a combination storage compartment and front armrest to the rear. (Please view the close-up photography in the gallery to assess the condition of the Z28's various interior surfaces.)

The trunk is fully carpeted and includes original storage bags for the two removable roof panels.

Under the hood, the L69 5-liter High Output Chevrolet V8 looks much as it would have when the car was delivered. Surfaces are very clean and original; no mechanical performance modifications are noted. Viewed from below, the chassis is similarly undamaged and original. (To best evaluate the condition of undercarriage surfaces, please review the gallery photos shot from below.)

The car's factory-mounted data and identification tags remain in place. In addition to documentation mentioned above, the sale also includes a 1984 Camaro sales brochure, the owner's manual, and related literature.
