“If you can imagine Jack Palance in an ornery mood, then you get the idea behind the Jeep Wrangler.” NewCarTestDrives.com, October 1999

The website summarized: “In the end, the Wrangler scores points because it bears the Jeep name and it offers a certain exclusivity. In fact, many Wrangler wranglers think this is the only 'real' Jeep. It also succeeds because it has no real competitors. Smaller sport/utilities such as the Suzuki Samurai, Geo Tracker, Suzuki Sidekick and Isuzu Amigo don't measure up to the Wrangler's range of capabilities. And the Land Rover Defender 90, which does measure up, costs about twice as much.”

Offered here is a substantially upgraded and lifted 1991 Jeep Wrangler YJ in metallic medium-blue over black under a removable black fiberglass top. Showing 178,541 miles, or under 6,000 miles per-year on average since new, the Wrangler is well below the Carfax 15,000-mile-per-year standard for “low mileage.” This professionally restored Jeep is fully ready for serious off-road adventuring and is equally at home on-road.

The Wrangler's fresh metallic-blue body paint is in well-kept condition across every surface and body panel, including the hood (with black scoop), and the bespoke 7-opening grille. The embossed Jeep logos on the body are painted white. Matte-black flared fiberglass fenders, front bumper with integrated tubular brush bar, tow hooks, and Badland Winches® winch (and matching matte-black standard rear bumper also with tow hooks) are free of damage. Lower body sides feature chrome diamond-plate protective panels. Chrome entry-assist steps, hood hold-downs, and door and tailgate hinges show well. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) The black fiberglass top fits well but shows some loss of its black finish. Cabin glass and lighting lenses are clear and uncracked. Dick Cepek® 15-inch chrome, 8-hole wheels in excellent condition are mounted with Mastercraft® Courser MXT 33x12.50 LT outline-white-letter tires.

Inside, the color theme is black: Black non-slip protective coating covers the cabin floors with black Jeep-branded rubber mats up front; black slipcovers are installed on all seats; a black center console includes cupholders and a small storage compartment; and a black-padded full roll cage protects cabin occupants. A three-spoke Grant® sport steering wheel with brushed-metal trim fronts the stock instrumentation: speedometer, tachometer, and five smaller stock gauges arrayed to the right across the black dash. To the left, a second tachometer—a programmable AutoMeter® Phantom unit—is mounted against the windshield. Three additional AutoMeter gauges—monitoring alternator output, oil pressure and coolant temperature—are mounted below the dash. The shift lever for the 4L60E automatic transmission is floor-mounted alongside the 4WD transfer-case selector lever. (Please view the close-up photography in the gallery to assess the condition of the Wrangler's various interior surfaces.)

Under the hood, the 5.3-liter, aluminum-block V8 (with 243 heads and a BTR® Stage-2 cam) is properly fitted in a clean, well-organized engine bay. A low-restriction air-filter and intake, aluminum radiator, blue valve covers, and blue Vortec-branded intake-manifold cover add performance cred. Viewed from below, the extensive lifted air-suspension components, clean lower-engine surfaces, transfer-case protective plating 4-wheel disc brakes, 14-bolt, 8.8 rear differential (with 4:10 gears), and more are all evidence of the professional off-roading upgrades. (To best evaluate the condition of undercarriage surfaces, please review the gallery photos shot from below.)

The Wrangler's original factory-mounted data and identification tags remain in place.

While the more than 125 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '91 Jeep Wrangler in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.
