(Please note: If you happen to be viewing this 2005 Cadillac XLR on a website other than our Garage Kept Motors site, it's possible that you've only seen some of our many photographs of the car due to third-party website limitations. “This is not your father's Cadillac.” – NewCarTestDrives, November 2004

“The XLR offers tenacious grip and excellent handling, benefits of a modified version of the superb 2005 Corvette chassis. It sounds sexy and delivers brilliant acceleration performance. Its 320-horsepower Northstar V8 is a modern, double-overhead-cam engine with variable-valve technology. The XLR is lighter and more powerful and quicker than the Mercedes SL500, Lexus SC430 and Jaguar XK8. Yet it's smooth, quiet, and pleasant when cruising, top up or top down.”

“The XLR simply succeeds as a luxury performance roadster, as well as in its mission to be an admirable flagship for General Motors.”

Offered here is a 2004 Cadillac XLR in Crimson Pearl over Shale Leather. Built at the Bowling Green, Kentucky assembly plant (also home of the Corvette), the hardtop-convertible two-seater has recorded 53,946 miles on its odometer, or fewer than 3,175 miles per-year since new. The car's outstanding condition is testament to fastidious owner care and conservative mileage-build. The original factory window sticker is included in the sale (and presented in the gallery for review); it shows all standard equipment and the only option offered on the model, satellite radio. The Carfax history shows a single minor-damage incident 5 years ago; repairs have long since been made with no sign remaining.

The exterior pearlescent Crimson paint is virtually flawless: perfect gloss, rich color, no fading, no defects. The folding hardtop is free of any paint compromises. Both painted bumpers exhibit not a scratch. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, please be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) There is no chrome on the body; the front grille is executed in brushed metal. Tinted cabin glass and all lighting lenses—including the high-mounted taillight formed into the trunk lip—are clear and free of cracks. Correct factory badging—the Cadillac grille emblem, “XLR” fender badges, and those same two identifiers on the rear deck with the Northstar engine badge—is all in place. Polished alloy 18-inch, 7-spoke factory wheels with Cadillac-logo chrome centers are mounted with Kumho® Ecsta 235/50 ZR-rated performance tires. “XLR”-branded disc brake calipers are visible through the open wheel design.

Inside, the Shale (very light gray) leather is as well-maintained as the remainder of the car: free of wear marks, soil, or damage of any sort. Even the driver's seat shows only expected light creasing from age and normal use. Light palomino-colored carpets cover cabin floors with custom-designed, tattersall-pattern red carpet mats adding both protection and complimentary style. (Original factory carpet mats are also included.) Door trim includes both leather and wood inserts, both free of issues. The multifunction, 3-spoke steering wheel includes a partial wood rim and Cadillac center crest and frames a full array of analog instruments clustered facing the driver. The center stack includes the digital infotainment screen above audio and climate controls, with the shift lever for the automatic transmission to the rear on the wood-trimmed console. (Please view the close-up photography in the gallery to assess the excellent condition of the XLR's interior surfaces.)

Under the hood, the 4.6-liter Cadillac Northstar V8 looks much as it would have the day it left the Bowling Green plant. Complete, spotless, and unmodified in any way. Viewed from below, the same is true: components, chassis, and protective panels all appear virtually as-new. The dual-exhaust system with quad chrome tips is a visual highlight. (To best evaluate the condition of the car's undercarriage surfaces, please review the gallery photos taken from below.)

The car's factory-mounted identification and information tags remain in place. The sale includes the full complement of owner literature, keys, and key fobs.

While the more than 190 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '05 Cadillac XLR in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.

The XLR was truly Cadillac's flagship model of the day. This superbly maintained example will put the open-air luxury cruising experience of that time in the hands of its next proud owner and their fortunate companion.
