“With a starting price as large as its personality, the Eldorado provided everything that one could ever desire in an automobile.” -OPUMO, U.K. design site, December 2015

The people at Hagerty Media captured the late-seventies Eldorado zeitgeist: “Yes, 1976 was a grand year for Cadillac, with giant lux yachts roaming the earth. Each of these fantastic, plush, open-topped conveyances turned in a curb weight of 5153 pounds and an overall length of a smidge over 224 inches. And all 1976 Eldorados… sported an impressive 8.2-liter, 500-cubic-inch V-8. Most breathed through a four-barrel Quadrajet carburetor.” The 1976 Eldorado was to be the “last year of the General Motors convertible” as Edward C. Kennard, Cadillac's general manager proclaimed in a press release on April 21, 1976.

While Cadillac would later reverse its decision, and to this day has introduced any number of drop-tops, there would never be another convertible as grand as the '76 Eldorado. In that sense, this is very much a historic automobile. The Firethorn Metallic (2811) over Cotillion White (2258) leather Eldorado convertible, with a white fabric, power-operated convertible top offered here perfectly represents this iconic model. With just 88,320 miles on its odometer—fewer than 2,000 miles per-year on average—the car remains in great condition mechanically and cosmetically.

The metallic-red exterior paint retains an excellent finish with very good gloss, not least of all on the long expanse of hood over which the driver enjoys a commanding view of the road. The convertible top stores beneath a power-operated “boot.” White double-line pinstriping extends along the flanks of the body following the primary design contour. All factory exterior badging is in place, properly mounted, and in excellent condition. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, please be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) Chrome on the bumpers, windshield surround, Cadillac-branded mirrors (incorporating both shiny chrome and brushed surfaces), and door handles is in excellent condition. The impressive front grille incorporating the four rectangular headlights is pristine. Lighting lenses are clear and free of cracks. Narrow white-stripe tires and full factory wheel covers with black centers and Cadillac-crest emblems are mounted.

Inside, the white-leather interior displays a like-new appearance and feel. Front and rear seat passengers enjoy the same luxurious standard with well-padded, vertically pleated leather in excellent condition. In similar fashion, the condition of the door trim—which incorporates white leather, red carpeting, styled woodgrain trim, and woodgrain pull-handles—is excellent. Cabin floor covering is rich, red, cut-pile premium carpeting in virtually perfect condition. The expansive red-vinyl padded dashboard includes four air-conditioning vents; a full-width woodgrain trim piece enhances the lower dash. A red steering wheel with handsome woodgrain trim frames both a 100-mph speedometer and the automatic-transmission gear indicator. All original dash trim—including the factory AM-FM Stereo push-button radio—is in place, and a Pioneer® audio head unit has been mounted below the dash. (Please view the close-up photography in the gallery to assess the excellent condition of the Eldorado's interior surfaces.)

Under that expansive hood, the massive 500 cubic-inch V8 powerplant commands an engine compartment which is complete with very clean surfaces. This is a replacement engine, installed and documented in 2012, with just 6,000 miles added since. The air-conditioning compressor was replaced at the same time. All auxiliary underhood equipment is properly mounted. Viewed from below, the car's undercarriage shows no evidence of damage. Underbody metal has been treated with rust-inhibitor so surface rust is virtually non-existent.
The car's original identification and information tags remain mounted. The sale includes the original owner's manual and related literature.

While the more than 165 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '76 Eldorado Convertible in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.

Hemmings noted: “Today these ('76 Eldorado convertibles) are prized among Cadillac fans….”

That's no wonder. It's hard not to imagine the intoxicating sensation of piloting this automobile. And it's probably not too much of an exaggeration to see oneself as royalty amidst all this seventies Cadillac luxury. Feeling like a king—or maybe even like THE King—behind the wheel must deliver a true natural high.
