“2002 Ford Thunderbird - More Than Gorgeous: At work or rest, Ford's Thunderbird surprises” - Autoweek, February 2002

“'A defensive driving course should be offered with each vehicle purchase, as other drivers practically drive into you as they are gawking,' said one owner. 'Did I mention this car is gorgeous?'”

“Ford's new Thunderbird may not be the fastest flier on the planet, but it's quick enough. It may not be the most nimble driver, opting instead to soften the corners and chuckholes with velvety comfort. It's pinched for space, but it'll haul two six-footers and their clubs. And though the novelty may wear off, in the looks-for-the-money category, this retro two-seat convertible is in a league of its own.”

Offered here is a 2002 Ford Thunderbird Convertible in red over charcoal under a black fabric soft top or red removable hardtop. The odometer reading is 12,917 miles, or fewer than 700 miles per-year since new. The T-bird's outstanding condition owes to that low mileage and superb owner care.

The non-metallic red paint retains a like-new showroom appearance, exhibiting excellent gloss with no flaws of any consequence. All body sheet metal is free of dings, dents, or other damage. The removable red hardtop (and storage stand) and the black convertible soft top are in the same excellent condition. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, please be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) Tastefully limited chrome—including the eggcrate-style front grille, windshield surround, rear-panel trim, and hardtop porthole trim—also retains showroom shine. All factory badging—including the stylized thunderbird emblem front and rear and the Thunderbird-script rear-fender badges—is properly in place. Cabin glass and lighting lenses are pristine. Factory 7-spoke, 17-inch chrome wheels in superb condition (with Thunderbird-logo center caps) are mounted with Michelin® Pilot MX4 235/50 all-season tires.

The car's interior color theme is charcoal accented by brushed-metal trim. Door panels blend hard-plastic molded in charcoal with stylized brushed-metal accents. Charcoal cabin carpeting is protected by matching carpet mats. Charcoal leather seat upholstery on the front buckets includes perforated center panels in a classic horizontal pattern, and Thunderbird emblems embroidered in the headrests. The driver's seat leather shows expected creasing from normal use. The curved cargo area behind the seats is carpeted and trimmed including a Thunderbird emblem. A 4-spoke, Thunderbird-branded, multifunction steering wheel frames the classic-design instrument cluster with white-faced gauges and turquoise indicator needles; a 7,000-rpm tachometer and 160-mph speedometer face the driver. Brushed-metal trim graces the lower dash on either side of the center stack. The stock audio system and climate-controls occupy the center dash and flow into the brushed-metal-trimmed center console where the shift lever for the automatic transmission is located. A combination storage compartment-armrest and cupholders complete the console. (Please view the close-up photography in the gallery to assess the excellent condition of the Thunderbird's interior surfaces.)

The car's trunk is spotless.

Under the hood, the 3.9-liter Thunderbird V8 commands a pristine engine bay. All stock components—including air conditioning—are properly mounted. The factory air intake has been replaced with an AF Dynamics® low-restriction intake system. Viewed from below, the car's chassis appears brand-new. The added Borla® stainless-steel dual-exhaust system with twin chrome tips is a special visual focal point. There is no rust.

The car's factory-mounted identification and information tags remain in place. The sale includes the full complement of owner's literature, covers for the car and the hardtop, the hardtop stand, and the removed air-intake parts.

While the more than 190 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '02 Thunderbird Convertible in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.

Adweek quoted a Texas T-bird owner: “The car drives beautifully and handles far better than I expected. Early articles from several automotive magazines suggested the 'Bird was purely a boulevard cruiser. Not true. The 3.9-liter engine is excellent with plenty of acceleration from the light and at speed. Overall fit-and-finish is absolutely superb—particularly for a recently produced Ford car. With the top up at 80 to 100 mph, the car is very quiet.”

As they say, “Ask the man (or woman) who owns one.”
