“Like a Rock.” – Long-running 1990s advertising campaign for Chevy Trucks.

A 1991 magazine ad (citing the C1500 Chevy pickup as a Consumer Digest Best Buy) in that legendary advertising campaign was headlined: “You don't get to be America's favorite half-ton pickup on looks alone." The copy went on to cite the 1991 truck's bigger cab with better visibility, increased standard horsepower, higher payload, heavier frame, and the highest 2WD full-size pickup gas mileage. There was a lot to like about the '91 Chevy pickups beyond “looks alone.” But these pickups were definitely at the top of the list on looks..

Offered here is an all-original SS-350 '91 C/1500 Silverado in metallic red over red, an excellent example of how good-looking an early-Nineties “short-bed” pickup can be. A Texas, dry-climate truck, the C/1500 has traveled just 67,213 miles, fewer than 2,250 miles per-year on average since new. In virtually every respect—inside and out—the truck's condition is virtually showroom-new.

Outside, the original metallic red paint was an especially good choice for the smooth-sided design and flat-surface red tailgate. Across the entire truck, the paint is fresh, uniformly glossy and free of damage. The body's tasteful chrome trim is in excellent condition, including bumpers, grille surround, and fender-well trim. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, please be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) There are no dents or dings on the sheet metal. The cargo box features a custom-fitted bed, wall, and tailgate TuffCoat® liner in outstanding, wear-free condition. Cabin glass and lighting lenses are clear and undamaged. Factory badging—including the black-and-red bowtie grille emblem, “1500” fender emblems, “Silverado” cab-side emblem, and “EFI” fuel-injection emblem are all in place; “SS350” rear-fender black-and-red graphic and red “Chevrolet” tailgate graphic are perfect. Chrome-and-black-finish US Mags® 20-inch, 10-spoke wheels are mounted with Toyo® Proxes 245/45 performance tires.

Inside, the multiple-shade, red-color theme is 100% stock and in exceptional condition. Door trim includes soft fabric in two red shades, red carpeting on the lower panels, and red vinyl-covered door handles. Power-window controls are mounted on the doors. Red cabin carpeting matches the door trim, and the red, vertical-pattern velour-fabric upholstery on the bench seat and the truck's red headliner show virtually no wear. The black, factory Chevrolet-branded steering wheel frames a black instrument panel set on the red, square-design padded dash. The shift lever for the automatic transmission is mounted on the column, and the factory audio unit and equalizer remain in place completing the stock look. (Please view the close-up photography in the gallery to assess the excellent condition of the truck's interior surfaces.)

Opening the hood reveals a completely stock engine bay commanded by the original 350-cubic-inch (5.7-liter) Chevrolet V8. All components—including air conditioning—are properly mounted, and all surfaces are stock with no evident modifications whatsoever. Viewed from below, the partial dual-exhaust system, rust-free lower body, drivetrain, and the scrape-front spoiler are visual focal points. Select chassis surfaces have been protectively treated with rust-inhibitor so no surface rust is evident.

The truck's original Service Parts glove-compartment build list and identification tags remain mounted. The original owner's manual, warranty booklet, and maintenance schedule are included in the sale.

While the more than 140 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '91 Chevy C/1500 in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.

Finding a vintage, metallic-red C1500 Silverado in this terrific condition is a rare event. Thirty years after its original delivery, “as new” is a reasonable expression of its overall description. Combined with its low mileage, stock equipment, and perfectly kept interior trim, “unicorn” is also no overstatement.
