“America's Best-Selling Pickup” – Period Ford magazine advertisement

The ad ticked off the Ford truck innovations in the early Eighties: “Ford, America's best-selling pickup for five straight years, leads again…. It's the first and only pickup that can deliver 21 mpg and over 2,500 lbs of payload…. It's the first truck V8 Automatic Overdrive option only from Ford! New automatic transmission shifts into overdrive at about 45 mph… automatically. Available with the 5.0L V-8. First design for the 80's. Totally redesigned last year, For Pickups are roomy and inviting inside… trim and aerodynamic outside for extra efficiency.”

Offered here is a 1982 Ford 100 2WD pickup in unrestored, survivor condition. The white-and-light-blue over black South Carolina truck has been maintained well overall, but shows ample signs of use and outdoor exposure appropriate to its nearly 40 years of use. In that time, the odometer rolled over once to record a total of 170,193 miles, roughly 4,400 miles per-year on average since new. This is a solid, venerable work truck with plenty more work left in it.

The exterior paint is original, and as such, shows fading, surface imperfections, age spots, and generalized, but limited light surface rust. There is no body-panel rust-through, and no significant damage or dents to the sheet metal. The cargo bed does show ample evidence of hauling duties through the years; scratches and light surface rust abound here. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, please be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) The front chrome bumper and painted rear step-bumper are in good condition, as are chrome West Coast-style side mirrors. Cabin glass and all lighting lenses are in good condition. All correct badging is in place. Stock 15-inch factory wheels with full-wheel covers are mounted with Dextero® tires.

Inside, the black-vinyl, bench-seat upholstery has been recently refreshed and remains in excellent, damage-free condition. New black carpeting covers the cabin floors. The white-painted cab roof is also undamaged. Light blue original door trim is in well-maintained condition and matches the color of the largely undamaged padded dashboard. A black, 2-spoke steering wheel with blue-oval Ford emblem frames the square-design, stock instrument panel; the shift lever for the automatic transmission is located on the column. The dash includes the stock AM-FM stereo radio and the slide-lever controls for heat, ventilation, and air conditioning. (Please view the close-up photography in the gallery to more fully assess the condition of interior surfaces.)

Under the hood, the 5-liter Ford V8 is complete in an original-appearing engine bay. Surfaces show soil and generalized light rust appropriate to the truck's age. All components—including air conditioning—appear properly installed, as are all hoses and wiring. Viewed from below, the truck's chassis is complete and undamaged, and shows generalized surface rust. Newer suspension components front and rear, as well as exhaust components indicate regular maintenance.

While the more than 125 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '82 Ford F100 in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.

“Built Ford Tough” wasn't just some empty advertising slogan. It was a promise made to Ford-pickup buyers through the years, a promise this F100 totally lived up to… and still does.
