“Sierra Wins Intellichoice® Award for the Best Overall Value in Its Class” – 1997 GMC Truck magazine-advertisement headline

The GMC ad went on: “The Intellichoice Award is particularly meaningful because it's based on the true value of a pickup: the coast of owning it for five years. Purchase price, depreciation, insurance, maintenance, and fuel costs were all calculated. And our Sierra was judged best in its class.”

Offered here is an excellent, one-owner example of this award-winning value: a 1997 GMC Sierra K1500 extended cab, 4-wheel-drive in Emerald Green (code 43) over gray. Sold new at Pacific GMC Truck in Fontana, California, the truck's odometer shows 108,795 miles, fewer than 4,600 miles per-year on average. The overall exceptional condition of the pickup shows what can result from a single owner's commitment to care and regular servicing. The Sierra's original window sticker showing all standard and optional factory-installed equipment is included in the sale and shown in the gallery.

The truck's Emerald Green metallic paint retains most of its original shine across all body panels, including the cargo box, tailgate, and fiberglass camper shell. A lone scratch from regular use near the tailgate release is the most significant flaw. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, please be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) A black, ProTecta® bed liner is installed safeguarding the cargo area and inner side of the tailgate from damage. “Z71” graphics on the rear fenders are crisp and undamaged. Bodyside rubberized protective trim running the length of the truck is pristine. Chrome bumpers and grille trim are also in excellent condition. Cabin glass and all lighting lenses are clear and uncracked; camper-shell windows (including the lift-up window over the tailgate and sliding side windows) show no cracks or other damage. Factory badging includes the “GMC” emblem in the front grille, “GMC 1500” badges on the lower front fenders, and both “Sierra” and “GMC Truck” badges on the tailgate. Lighting lenses are clear and un-cracked, and cabin glass, including the sliding rear window, is similarly free of damage. A hitch-receiver and trailer electrical connections (both part of the optional towing package) are mounted below the rear step bumper. Original angled-five-spoke, 16-inch cast aluminum wheels (showing minor indications of normal wear) are mounted with Bridgestone® Dueller A/T 245/75 outline-white-letter all-terrain tires.

The truck's interior condition is exemplary. The gray fabric original upholstery on the high-back seats, rear crew bench seat, and center armrest (and storage area) has been meticulously maintained. The fabric is free of noteworthy signs of wear, with absolutely no sign of damage. In the same way, the gray carpeting is clean and protected by GM-branded rubber mats. Door trim—including on the two (rear-hinged) rear side mini-doors—is well kept with only the driver's door showing light wear from regular use. The GMC-Truck-branded, black steering wheel frames the truck's dash (also gray with black inserts) and features a full array of driver-focused analog instruments (including tachometer and engine-monitoring gauges) together with controls for the factory audio system (with CD) and the HVAC controls located on the right-hand side, surrounded by black for easy legibility. All instrument and control markings are clear and crisp. Power-window and door-lock controls are mounted on the door trim. The automatic-transmission shifter is console-mounted while the control buttons for the electronic 4WD system are located on the dash. The cabin headliner and overhead console are free of damage or discoloration. (Please view the close-up photography in the gallery to fully assess the truck's excellent interior condition.)

Under the hood, the reliable 5.7-liter GM Vortec V8—the powerplant in millions of GM trucks—is centerstage in a very well-maintained, extremely clean engine bay. All related components are properly mounted; all wiring and engine-cooling hoses are properly routed. The engine has clearly benefited from regular servicing. Viewed from below, the chassis is complete and undamaged. Surface rust is present on some untreated-metal components, but there is no indication of body-panel rust. The protective plate over the front-axle differential remains in place.

While the more than 160 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '97 GMC Sierra K1500 in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.
