“The 1969 Chevelle coupe remains especially beloved today, particularly when equipped with the SS package….” - Autoweek, December 2018

The 1969 Chevelle SS offered here in metallic burgundy with white stripes over black is a beautifully restored and respectfully upgraded example. The car's odometer displays just 45,373 miles.

The exterior burgundy metallic paint shows very well. Gloss is uniform and the paint was correctly applied to the door edges, door jambs, and the underside of the trunk lid. All sheet metal is free of dings, dents, or other damage. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) The twin white stripes (with surrounding, thin white outline stripes) were properly affixed in the factory style to hood and rear trunk lid (but not the roof) in the manner of the classic, late-Sixties Z28 cars. Factory badging includes: the front grille performance-identifier “SS” in its center, a script “Chevelle” badge above, and the correct “Chevelle” script badge on the rear deck. The original chrome bumpers have been beautifully maintained and show only very light patina from age, as is the case for the brightwork across the rest of the Chevelle, including window trim, side mirrors, door handles, and the rear bumper. Lighting lenses and cabin glass (with some patina from age) are clear and free of cracks or other damage. Factory, 14-inch, 5-spoke styled steel wheels with “SS” center caps (all in excellent condition) are mounted with Cooper® Cobra Radial GT 236/60 raised-white-letter tires.

The black-themed interior remains virtually 100% stock and original (with only a below-dash cluster of three Equus® gauges (measuring coolant temperature, alternator output, and oil pressure) added as they might well have been back in the day). Door panels are trimmed in horizontally pleated black vinyl with “SS” badges, and roll-up window cranks. The seat upholstery is vertically pleated black vinyl with the correct, textured, vertical inserts on the front buckets and rear bench seat. The upholstery material shows no wear indications at all (the rear panel of the driver's seat-back does exhibit light damage likely from a child's footwear). Shoulder and lap belts are in place. The 2-spoke, script “Chevrolet”-branded, woodgrain-trimmed sport steering wheel frames the stock black dashboard and instrument cluster. The dash includes “SS 396” and “Astro Ventilation” emblems on the passenger side; some dash surfaces show patina from age and regular use, but no significant damage. A Nakamichi® audio head unit replaces the factory AM radio. Black cabin carpeting is in place. A cue-ball style shift knob tops the floor-mounted shift lever for the 4-speed manual transmission. The car's trunk is clean with no indications of rust.

Opening the hood reveals the 350-cubic-inch V8 in the center of a clean and properly laid-out engine bay. Topped by an open-sided air cleaner in chrome, with chrome, Edelbrock®-embossed valve covers and bare-metal intake manifold, the engine and its component surfaces are all proper, period-correct, and very clean. The engine block is correctly painted Chevrolet-orange. Viewed from below, the chassis is also extremely clean, complete, and undamaged. Rust-inhibiting coating has been properly applied, so surface rust is not in evidence. The MagnaFlow® dual-exhaust system (exiting with down-pipes just beyond the rear axle) is a visual focal point.

While the more than 155 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '69 Chevelle SS in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.

In concluding its period Chevelle SS write-up, HorsepowerMemories.com noted: “Reviewers that drove this car when it was introduced knew it was special, and that its time was short. Words like 'supercar' and 'earth mover' were used to describe its indomitable performance and bravado.” The truth is, those descriptors are still accurate today.
