“GMC's four-wheel-drive Jimmy goes places crowds can't follow.” – GMC 1972 magazine advertisement

The GMC Jimmy 1972 sales brochure gave more details: “The Jimmy wears its nameplate with pride as it carries on a worldwide tradition for on/off road dependability. Jimmy can be your kind of truck. Want off-road action? Check the Jimmy out with four-wheel-drive equipment. You can have a Jimmy equipped to suit your needs.”

The full 1972 Jimmy sales brochure can be found online here: https://www.xr793.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/1972-GMC-Jimmy.pdf

Offered here is a 1972 GMC Jimmy, fully and professionally restored, lifted, and upgraded to, as the brochure says, “suit your needs.” The red-orange-over-houndstooth-fabric 4WD SUV (red-orange is the factory-original documented color) is a spectacular tribute to the brand's GM heritage. The quality of the restoration work is absolutely first-class in every respect. The Jimmy's odometer shows 70,098 miles, and the truck's full list of original equipment is documented with the Service Parts Identification sticker still in place.

As part of its comprehensive, two-year restoration, the Jimmy's exterior sheet metal has been restored to like-new condition. There are no flaws, and the stunning red-orange finish (the Jimmy's original color) is uniformly lustrous across the entire truck, no doubt painted to a higher standard than was in force at the Pontiac, Michigan GMC truck plant back in the day. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, please be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) The body's stock appearance has been maintained from its chrome-surrounded quad headlight grille to the “GMC”-embossed painted tailgate. Other chrome trim, including bumpers, side mirror, door handles, body trim, and grille trim, is all in pristine condition. The black fiberglass top has been restored to the same high standard as the balance of the vehicle. The truck's overall theme is stock but lifted and outfitted with a top-quality, off-road tire-and-wheel package. Factory badging is limited to the front-fender “GMC Jimmy” emblems. Lightly tinted cabin glass and all lighting lenses (including on all four body-side marker lights) are free of imperfections. HardRock® H707 Destroyer, 20-inch, forged alloy off-road wheels (https://hardrockoffroad.com) are mounted with Cooper® Discoverer STT Pro 35x12.5 LT tires.

The truck's GM classic orange-and-black custom houndstooth interior upholstery (also employed on the rear-cabin side walls) is as attractive as it is unique. New front bucket seats (separated by a stock black storage box with cupholders) and rear (removable) bench seat are trimmed in black vinyl. Stock black door trim in excellent condition is surrounded by orange-painted metal with black carpet on the lower panel. Fresh black carpeting also covers the cabin floors continuing into the cargo area. The stock, 2-spoke, GMC branded black steering wheel frames an original instrument cluster—100-mph speedometer, 5,000-rpm tachometer, analog clock, and fuel-level, alternator-output, coolant-temperature, oil-pressure gauges—is set in a black-and-chrome panel. The shift lever for the automatic transmission is mounted on the steering column; the transfer-case selector is floor-mounted. Stock heating and ventilation slide-lever controls, a stock-appearing push-button radio, and the stock glove box complete the dash.

Under the hood, a perfectly clean and correctly GM-orange-painted 350-cubic-inch V8 commands a well-organized engine bay. The engine is dressed with an open-sided chrome air-cleaner cover, machined billet pulleys, and finned-and-polished valve covers. An aluminum radiator and properly zinc-finished brake booster are also mounted. Viewed from below, the truck's chassis is absolutely pristine. Metal frame and component surfaces have been properly coated with rust-inhibitors so there is no rust, not even surface rust. The properly installed lift kit—including premium Bilstein® suspension components—is a definite focal point. There is no damage whatsoever to the chassis.

The truck's original build and identification tag remains mounted.

While the more than 160 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '72 Chevy C10 in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.

Even back in the day, GMC Jimmys were a rare sight compared to their GM-sister Chevy Blazers. To see one now in its original color, properly lifted, and restored to perfection is something special. With a custom houndstooth interior in place, the presentation is perfect. Indeed, this really is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for any GMC fan.
