“Bronco Grows Up” - “Ford Bronco: A History of Ford's Legendary 4x4” by Todd Zuercher

“Following its successful debut, Bronco sales reached record levels after the launch of the 2nd generation Bronco in 1978. The first two years of the larger and more luxurious Bronco were some of the most popular in the 30-year production run. Bronco shifted to a larger platform and body-style sharing components with the F-Series truck while maintaining key off-road capabilities including maneuverability, and approach, departure, and breakover angles.”

Offered here is a 1979 second-generation Ford Bronco freshly restored in silver over gray-and black with a black fiberglass top. The truck's odometer currently shows 26,362, although the 5-digit odometer has likely rolled over.

The exterior silver paint is the result of a comprehensive professional respray. All metal surfaces—including door jambs, door and hood edges, and tailgate sides--were properly re-painted. The paint is excellent overall with a uniformly smooth finish and consistent high gloss free of flaws. The quality of the paintwork exceeds the factory standards back when the truck was assembled by Ford. There are no dings, dents, or other damage to any sheet metal. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, please be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) The black-painted, original fiberglass top is also free of imperfections. All factory badging was removed from the body before painting resulting in a smooth, uncluttered look. A mild lift kit is installed for a perfect stance. Chrome and bright-metal finishes on the bumpers, grille, headlight trim, door handles, dual-exhaust tips, and side mirrors have been very well-maintained with superb reflectivity and no damage. Lightly tinted cabin glass and all lighting lenses are clear and unmarred. Polished-alloy, ProComp® 8-hole, 15-inch aftermarket wheels are mounted with Cooper® Discoverer A/T3 33x12.50 LT tires.

Inside, stock door trim-panels, cargo-area walls, and cabin carpeting (continuing throughout the cargo area) are all rendered in black. The tailgate features a black hard-plastic insert. Front bucket seats and the removable rear bench seat are freshly upholstered in vertically pleated soft gray fabric in pristine condition. A gray, lockable, deep storage box with cupholders is mounted between the front seats. The black-and-gray theme continues with a matte-black Grant® GT steering wheel framing a black padded dash with metal surfaces painted in the silver body color. Instruments are square-design and controls for the heat and ventilation are stock slide-levers. The shift lever for the 4-speed manual transmission is mounted on the center floor adjacent to the 4WD transfer-case selector.

Under the hood, the 351-cubic-inch Ford V8 is nicely dressed with an Edelbrock® branded, finned, open-sided, air-cleaner cover and “Powered by Ford” finned valve covers. The engine bay is clen and orderly. Viewed from below, the chassis is straight, complete, and free of damage. The properly installed lift kit and the dual-exhaust a visual focal point. Most metal surfaces have been treated with rust-inhibitor so light surface rust is limited to some untreated metal, notably on the exhaust system.

While the more than 135 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '79 Bronco in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.

Vintage Broncos properly restored don't come any nicer than this '79 silver truck. On-road or off, at truck gatherings or just parked in the driveway, this Bronco will be a major topic of conversation. Expect compliments.
