“Like a Rock.” – Long-running 1990s advertising campaign for Chevy Trucks.

A period magazine ad (citing the C1500 Chevy pickup as a Consumer Digest Best Buy) in that legendary advertising campaign was headlined: “You don't get to be America's favorite half-ton pickup on looks alone." The copy went on to cite the truck's bigger cab with better visibility, increased standard horsepower, higher payload, heavier frame, and the highest 2WD full-size pickup gas mileage. There was a lot to like about the early Nineties Chevy pickups beyond “looks alone.” But these pickups were definitely at the top of the list on looks, too.

Offered here is an especially good-looking and extremely well-maintained 1990 C1500 “short-bed” pickup in two-tone blue over blue. The truck benefits from light custom touches that respect the classic design. Having traveled just 57,988 miles—fewer than 1,900 miles per-year on average—this has been a gently used truck over its life, as its exceptional condition verifies.

Outside, the two blue paint shades were an especially good choice for the smooth-sided design. A thin, full-length, double-line tape stripe in black, combined with the lower body trim, emphasizes the horizontal flow of the truck's now classic design. Across the entire truck, the paint is uniformly glossy and free of damage. The floor of the cargo bed is perfect. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, please be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) Cabin glass is lightly tinted; lighting lenses are clear and undamaged. The most noticeable appearance upgrade is the addition of aftermarket 5-spoke polished-finish wheels mounted Cooper® Evolution black sidewall tires. The truck's factory chrome trim is all in place, as are all factory badges and identification (including the “Chevrolet” tailgate lettering in black). All chrome—including the front grille (with gold bowtie emblem) and both front and rear bumpers—Is in pristine condition.

Inside, the blue-patterned fabric upholstery on the bench seat and lower door trim has been very well-maintained; there are no rips, tears, or significant signs of wear. The same is the case for the blue cabin carpeting (protected by carpet floor mats). The dashboard includes all stock features, instruments, and controls; the truck is equipped with air conditioning and power windows. The black, factory, Chevrolet-branded steering wheel overlooks the driver-oriented instruments and controls as well as the blue, damage-free dashboard. The factory-installed radio with equalizer also remains in place. All interior surfaces have been beautifully preserved.

Under the hood, the engine bay is spotless; the 350 cubic-inch V8 couldn't have looked nicer when it was on the showroom floor. All components are properly mounted without modifications. Viewed from below, the truck's chassis is exceptionally clean with only very minor light surface rust on some untreated metal surfaces. The dual exhaust is properly routed and shows no damage from over-aggressive driving styles.

While the more than 135 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '90 Silverado C1500 in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.

The popularity of pickup trucks has only grown since this '90 was built. As always, the best advice for acquiring a 30 year-old truck is to secure one that has been gently used and properly serviced through the years. With both these criteria so perfectly met, this blue-on-blue Silverado represents a prime candidate.
