“American V-8 Power: The C5 departs with style” – MotorTrend, October 2003

MotorTrend writer, John Kiewicz, described the commemorative's backstory: “The Corvette has enjoyed a legendary presence and colorful history since its debut in 1953. The current, fifth-generation Corvette, now seven years in production, remains the most complete and potent Corvette package offered--though its reign will come to an end as a new, more aggressive sixth-generation car appears in '05. The C5 exits in grand fashion, however, in the form of an optional Commemorative Edition that celebrates Corvette's back-to-back class victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. …a special Le Mans Blue paint, the same hue used on the two C5-R contenders that returned to Le Mans this year and narrowly missed a three-peat class win at the famed endurance race. The Commemorative package includes a special Shale-colored interior; the seats incorporate Corvette cross-flags embroidered into the headrests. Also part of the mix are exterior badges acknowledging Corvette's Le Mans success.”

Offered here is a 50th Anniversary 2004 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Commemorative Edition (one of just 2,025 assembled) in the exclusive Le Mans Blue over slate. This is a Carfax-certified one-owner car currently showing 19,230 total miles, fewer than 1,150 miles per-year since it was delivered new at Heartland Chevrolet of Liberty, Missouri. The meticulous care the owner has bestowed on this special Z06 through the years is evident in its pristine, collector-grade condition. The sale also includes the car's original factory window sticker listing the car's standard and optional equipment (photos of the sticker are included in the gallery for reference.)

The stunning metallic-blue exterior paint and Le Mans-inspired, striping (on the hood, roof, and rear deck) combination shows virtually as new. Deep-blue reflectivity, superb gloss and factory-smooth application across the entire car. The matte-black-finished front chin spoiler, window trim, rear-fender brake-cooling vents, and rear quad-exhaust outlet trim are likewise free of flaws. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, please be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) All factory badging, notably including the side and rear “Z06” emblems (with Le Mans 24 Hours commemorative information in front), front and rear crossed-flags badges, and embossed “C-O-R-V-E-T-T-E” lettering on the rear panel is properly in place. Quad chrome exhaust tips—the only chrome on the body—are perfect. Even the original license-plate backing bears an embossed bowtie. Original and undamaged, 17-inch, polished-alloy wheels (with crossed-flags center caps) are mounted with GoodYear® Eagle F1 265/40 Z-rated performance tires.

Inside, the color theme is slate-black, and the condition of every surface—leather, plastic, switchgear, fabric, carpet, and more—is exemplary. High-back leather bucket seats wear embroidered, color crossed-flags emblems on their headrests. The same emblem is embossed on the black steering wheel framing full, analog, Z06-branded instrumentation. The center stack houses the original audio system, climate controls, and other switches, and immediately to the rear, the leather-booted shift lever for the 6-speed manual transmission is located on the console. Black carpeting covers the cabin and cargo-area floors with Z06-embroidered matching carpet mats for protection.

Under the front-hinged hood, the 5.7-liter, Chevrolet Performance V8 clad largely in black with bright-red, Corvette-branded valve covers, makes a strong impression. The engine bay is completely stock with no aftermarket modifications. All surfaces are pristine. Viewed from below, the chassis and undercarriage is similarly pristine.

The car's original data and identification tags remain as mounted at the Bowling Green factory. The previously mentioned window sticker is included.

While the more than 145 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '04 Corvette Z06 Commemorative Edition in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.

Corvette Le Mans driver and road-racing legend, Ron Fellows road-tested the Commemorative Edition. His take? "I was surprised by the general balance," notes Fellows. The MotorTrend writer described Fellows' time in the car: “On his third lap, he turned in an impressive 1:33.9-second time, proving the fortitude of the street-legal Z06 package. To really get an appreciation of what this thing's capable of, you need a racing seat… the cornering capabilities are that good. "

The is a special opportunity to own a near-perfect-condition, special Corvette born of the marque's racing success. We envy the next owner adding this to their stable.
