“Now With PDK - As in Pretty Damn, er ... Kwik” – 2009 Porsche 911 S Cabriolet First Test, Motor Trend

“The PDK helps make the 911 faster. Compared with the regular six-speed manual, Porsche claims it knocks two-tenths of a second off the 0-60 mph sprint in Sport mode, and four-tenths of a second in Sport Plus mode. Those claims look solid. Blessed with 30 extra horses -- courtesy of the new DI 3.8L flat six slung out back -- our PDK-equipped Carrera S Cabrio scorched to 60 mph in 3.9 sec., half a second faster than our much-missed, conventional transmissioned 2005 Carrera S Coupe long termer, despite carrying an extra 221 lb (66 lb of which is the PDK tranny). That's deeply impressive: We can't think of another fully crashworthy, mass-produced road car with less than 400 hp that will dip into the threes in the 0-60 sprint.”

Offered here is a 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet (a Florida car) in Ruby Red Metallic (L2) over black standard leather, under a black fabric top for the power-operated roof. The car's odometer currently shows 62,156 accident-and-damage-free miles, just over 5,000 miles per-year on average since new, well below the 15,000-miles-per-year Carfax standard for average mileage. The car's pristine condition is a testament to expected Porsche-owner commitment to maintenance and care for their very special sports cars.

The car is virtually 100% stock. Its exterior Ruby Red Metallic paint retains near-showroom luster: even shine, excellent reflectivity, and no damage (to paint or sheet metal). The color was an excellent choice to highlight the beautiful lines of the cabriolet body. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) All factory badging is pristine. Cabin glass and all lighting lenses are perfect. The power-operated roof operates flawlessly. Instrumentation is complete and all graphic markings on switchgear and gauges are crisp and unworn. Factory original, 5-split-spoke, 18-inch alloy wheels with Porsche-crest center caps are mounted with Hankook® V12 evo 235/40 all-season performance tires. Copper-painted brake calipers and cross-drilled rotors are visible through the wheel openings.

Inside, what Porsche calls the “standard leather interior” is as impressive as the rest of the car. Indeed, many Porsche purists prefer this level of trim over more colorful—some would say, overly colorful—optional levels. The seats' leather includes embossed Porsche crests as noted on the option list. Door trim, dashboard, round-center steering wheel, and carpeting—all in black—retain nearly new surface finished and tactile feel. The shift lever for the widely hailed PDK automatic transmission is mounted on the console. All factory-mounted controls—including the audio interface, climate control, and information screen—remain in place. The only notable sign of use in the interior is light looseness on the front seat-bottom cushions from normal use.

Like the rest of the car, the rear-mounted, 3.6-liter, horizontal-6-cylinder (boxer) fuel-injected engine appears virtually new. The engine has not been modified. Viewed from below, all factory-mounted protective plates are in place forward of the engine. There is no indication of any damage at all.

The car's original data and identification tags remain as mounted at the Zuffenhausen plant. Records of recent servicing at Euro Autowerks in Grand Rapids are included.

While the more than 170 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '09 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.

Somewhere, someone has this sort of excellent-condition 911 Carrera Cabriolet on their birthday or Christmas wish list. (If you know that person, be sure and pass along this link.) Imagine their delight at seeing it arrive with a big bow to match its Ruby Red finish.
