“Put a bigger, more powerful engine in a smaller, lighter car… and you will almost always have a faster trip down the strip.” – Hemmings, February 2018

Here's how Chrysler Corporation described its Dodge Dart GT in a magazine ad back in the day: “There's a new way to go. Big-new, all-new Dodge Dart GT. And if its obvious beauty and fresh styling don't turn you on, maybe this list of standard equipment will. An all-new vinyl interior. Bucket seats. Carpeting, front and rear. Retractable front lap belts. Redesigned, recessed instrument panel. Curved side glass. Unique, concave rear window. And more… much more luxury than you'd expect from a car carrying a compact price. Add to this a choice of Six or V8 power and a dozen or more safety features, and you've got quite a car. … The Dodge Rebellion wants you.”

Offered here is a beautifully maintained and perfectly refreshed 1969 Dodge Dart GT 2-door hardtop in a striking color combination: “Plum Crazy”-like purple (with a black vinyl top) over black. The car's odometer shows 50,815 miles, or fewer than 1,000 miles per-year on average since new. This is muscle-car-era MOPAR performance in a smaller, but very potent package.

Thanks to a highly professional respray, the car's exterior purple paint is in near-showroom condition, uniformly glossy and deeply reflective across the entire body. There are no dings, no dents, no noteworthy flaws on any sheet-metal panel. The factory's restrained use of chrome trim made for an appealing, understated design. Here, the recessed front grille and chrome bumpers are in perfect condition. Bodyside striping emphasizes the horizontal lines and graceful roof profile. Rear-deck metal trim and chrome bumper appear close-to-new. The “GT Dart” black graphic and stripe horizontal across the rear deck leaves no one mistaking what model just passed by. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) Dual chrome exhaust tips add emphasis. All factory emblems—the “GT” emblem on the hood, “V8” front-fender emblems, another “Dart GT” emblem on the rear fenders, and “Dodge GT” rear emblem—are all in place. Cabin glass and lighting lenses are virtually perfect, clear and free of cracks. Cragar® chrome, 5-spoke, 14-inch wheels are mounted with Cooper® Cobra Radial GT 215/70 raides-white-letter tires.

The car's basic interior calls to mind the sort of specification a performance-first sort of buyer would seek out. Fold-forward front bucket and the rear bench seat are upholstered in simple black vinyl with minimal surface embossing. Door-panel trim mirrors the upholstery design and adds a prominent “GT” badge. Side-vent windows are push-pull; cranks operate the roll-up glass. The dashboard has an attractive horizontal-look design with a padded black top. A handsome 3-spoke steering wheel with Dodge Division center emblem frames standard factory instruments, with a column-mounted Superpro® 8,000-rpm tachometer and auxiliary oil-pressure, coolant-temperature, and amperage-output gauges mounted below the dashboard. The factory-original “Dart Solid State” AM push-button radio remains mounted in the center-dash position, with a ProAudio® upgraded audio head unit mounted below the dash. The chrome shift lever for the automatic transmission is mounted on the black center console. Black carpeting in very well-maintained condition covers the cabin floors. The car's trunk interior is perfectly clean with a period-correct vinyl floor mat.

Under the hood, a pristine engine bay (with purple-painted, simplified firewall and fender tops) houses the perfectly clean, 318-cubic-inch small-block V8. A chrome cover for the open-sided air cleaner advertises “MOPAR Performance." Chrome valve covers add flair, and the engine block is properly painted orange. An aluminum radiator is mounted. All other components are present and correctly installed; all hoses and wiring are properly routed. Viewed from below, the car's chassis is clean, straight, and complete. The full-length, free-flow exhaust system is properly routed. There is expected surface rust on some untreated metal, but no signs of damage as might be the case from too-aggressive driving.

The car's original data and identification tags remain mounted.

While the more than 145 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '69 Dart GTl in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.

This Dart GT is ready for show and go. And if a cars-and-coffee show or MOPAR-enthusiast gathering is the destination, don't expect much competition for stares and compliments. This is likely to be the sole Dart GT around, and will almost certainly be a crowd-pleasing star among all the muscle-car entries.
