“The Chevy II and Nova finally got a handsome redesign in 1966….” – Hagerty

The Hagerty people went on to summarize the new-look '66 Nova: "A full-length body line divided the side, the front fenders were now hooded over single headlights, a simple horizontal-barred anodized aluminum grille divided the headlights, and the taillights were now set vertically in crisply squared-off rear fenders.”

Very popular at the time, these appealing details in the re-design helped ensure the '66 Chevy Nova would remain a favorite with the bowtie crowd for decades to come. This car is proof.

Offered here is a 1966 Chevy Nova 2-door, respectfully and selectively upgraded without diminishing the model's inherent classic appeal. The car's original, unrestored body and a performance powertrain come together to capture a “performance sleeper” vibe perfectly.

The light-blue exterior paint is original; the shine is good with some light, age-related fading (especially on the hood). Body-panel alignment is correct, and all panels are free of dents or other damage. The smooth lines of the hardtop, the sloping roof, and smooth flanks of the car—all part of the Nova's original appeal—show well. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) The classic Chevrolet design is retained here with no alterations to the front and rear bumpers, headlight trim, trunk-lid trim (with “Chevy II” identification), window trim, and exterior (Chevrolet-branded) drivers-side mirror. Thankfully, no ”SS” badging has been added. Chrome-finished surfaces are free of wear, abrasion, or excessive patina. Silver-painted, Corvette-style, slotted steel wheels with chrome, turbine-style, “Chevrolet Motor Division”-branded hubcaps are mounted with Cooper® Cobra 205/70/14 Radial GT tires in front, and Trac 50® High-Performance Racing Pro tires in back.

The Nova's interior is a well-matched integration of the original with selective performance-based upgrades. Door trim is stock, black, horizontal-pattern vinyl. Front bucket seats are a high-back, racing style upholstered in black with center fabric inserts. The rear bench seat retains original-style fabric-and-vinyl upholstery. Black, original-weave carpeting covers the cabin floors. A 4-spoke, black steering wheel frames the stock, horizontal speedometer with an upgraded, Chevrolet-bowtie-branded audio system (in the factory radio location) and stock slide-lever heat and ventilation controls to the right. Added below the dashboard are three engine-monitoring gauges and additional audio-system controls. The shift lever for the 4-speed manual transmission is floor-mounted.

The Nova's trunk is clean and tidy.

Under the hood, the 350-cubic-inch V8 is well turned out with an open-sided, Edelbrock-embossed, chrome air cleaner and chrome valve covers, bare-metal intake manifold, and proper orange engine-block paint. All components are in place and properly mounted, and the engine bay is clean. Viewed from below, the chassis is clean and undamaged with only light surface rust on untreated metal. Focal points include the racing-style exhaust headers, custom dual-exhaust system with cut-outs and chrome tips, upgraded suspension components, and very clean lower-engine and transmission surfaces.

The Nova's original build and identification tags remain mounted.

While the more than 140 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '66 Nova in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.

The appeal of a period-correct, well-executed, “performance sleeper” Nova never fades among the bowtie-brand enthusiasts. The next owner can expect to hear plenty of compliments on this properly understated, street-racing execution.
