“The new Cutlass Supreme Brougham is the most luxurious version ever built of our most-popular car” – 1976 Oldsmobile magazine advertisement

The advertising copy went on to list the Cutlass Supreme Brougham's charms: “Cutlass Supreme's looks… mid-size maneuverability… the solid way it's built….” and went on, “The interior has velour seats with the loose-cushion look, like the ones in the famous Olds 98 Regency. And there's a landau roof…. The Cutlass Supreme Brougham, a practical mid-size car with the look of a big, expensive car. And the good feeling of having an Olds around you.”

Offered here is a 1976 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham in Mahogany (code 37) over burgundy. This was Oldsmobile's highest-spec version of its wildly popular mid-size Cutlass model line. Purchased New at Mulvihill Oldsmobile of Grand Rapids, Michigan on July 28, 1976 as a “Bicentennial Model” and owned continuously since by the same individual, the Cutlass Brougham 's odometer currently shows 56,308 miles, or just 1,250 miles per-year on average since new. The car has been properly stewarded and meticulously maintained by its one owner. It is today, a 100% original example of a mid-Seventies classic in outstanding overall condition.

The exterior Mahogany metallic paint retains near-showroom condition with excellent gloss and no damage. In the same way, the chrome finish on the car's front and rear bumpers, “waterfall” style grille, hood trim, lower body-side trim, window surrounds, wheel-well trim, and taillight trim is all in excellent condition, a sign of regular, proper metal-cleaning. Rubber rub strips front and rear appear to have never rubbed anything. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) The body-color-matching landau vinyl top has lost none of its luster over time and is free of rub marks or scars. Factory badging—including the Oldsmobile-logo emblems front and rear, front-grille script-Oldsmobile badge, fender and rear-deck script Cutlass Supreme and “Brougham” badges, and an Oldsmobile emblem on the sailplane—is all properly in place and in excellent condition. Cabin glass and all lighting lenses are clear and free of scratches or cracking. Factory steel wheels wear chrome full, faux wire-wheel covers and are mounted with Michelin® X thin-whitewall radial tires.

Inside, the Cutlass is no less impressive. The burgundy velour upholstery with the loose-cushion, triangle-patterned look and burgundy vinyl side trim does indeed mimic the look of the Oldsmobile 98 as promised in the advertisement. What's more important here, the upholstery is free of noticeable wear with no sign of damage, no rips, and no tears. The color is true and inviting. In complementary fashion, the door trim mixes velour, hard-molded burgundy plastic, and tasteful chrome trim. Power-window switches are door-mounted. An Oldsmobile-logo padded burgundy steering wheel frames the handsomely sculpted, woodgrain-trimmed, driver-focused dashboard. The shift lever for the automatic transmission is mounted on the steering column. Other factory-installed equipment includes power steering and brakes, 6-way power split-bench seat, and tinted glass. Stock, slide-lever controls for the HVAC system and the original AM-FM radio remain in place. All surfaces in the car's interior—including fabric, woodgrain trim, instrument lenses, switchgear, and graphic markings—remain virtually as-new.

Under the hood, the 455-cubic-inch V8 wears its stock look (including its identifying air-cleaner-cover sticker), with correct light-blue engine-black and valve-cover paint. Components—including air conditioning—are properly mounted and surfaces are clean with no modification nor any dress-up chrome bits. Viewed from below, the car's chassis is straight and free of damage with all components—including the posi-traction rear differential—properly in place. Expected light surface rust is present on some untreated metal.

The Cutlass' original build and identification tags remain as mounted at the factory. The sale includes a copy of the original owner's title as well as factory literature including the owner's manual.

While the more than 145 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this Cutlass Supreme Brougham in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.

Finding a mid-Seventies Cutlass Supreme—much less a Brougham—in this unmolested, extremely well-maintained, one-owner condition is a real needle-in-a-haystack sort of proposition. Fortunately, we found this needle for you.
