“… every other 19-year-old in the late Sixties… wanted the 375hp, 396-cu.in big-block in his Nova….” – Hemmings, February 2013

Hold that thought.

Offered here is an Emerald Green-over-black, 1970 Nova. It could be appropriately labeled a fresh “Nova 496.” Re-powered by a built 496-cubic-inch V8 in 2017, fewer than 1,000 miles have been added since. Total chassis mileage is 46,567, or just over 900 miles per-year on average since new. The car's excellent, stock-appearing condition is a tribute to its builder's taste, and prior caretakers' maintenance.

The Nova's Emerald Green body paint is in virtually perfect condition. Professionally applied at the same time as the new engine was put in place, the finish is smooth, glossy, and free of imperfections. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) This is a Nova that avoided the temptation to add “SS” cues. The front grille, for example, has not been blacked-out, and no “SS” badging has been added; proper “Nova” script badges on the front fenders and rear deck, and the Chevrolet bowtie grille emblem are the only badging. Front and rear chrome bumpers are in like-new condition. Cabin glass and all lighting lenses are clear and free of cracks or other damage. Weld Racing® 8-hole polished wheels with center caps are mounted with Aurora® Radial performance tires.

Inside, the color theme is black: black-vinyl upholstery on the front and rear bench seats features a classic, vertically pleated design; a black leather-covered, brushed-metal trimmed 3-spoke steering wheel frames a black dash; black carpeting (protected by rubber floor mats) covers the cabin floors. Door trim mimics the seat upholstery design beneath a black hard-plastic top panel; roll-up window-cranks are chrome. Power steering and power brakes are in place. Stock instrumentation is augmented with an AutoGage® programmable tachometer. Condition of the vinyl, plastic, carpet, and dashboard interior surfaces is pristine overall. The trunk is clean with the battery and a competition fuel cell installed here.

Under the hood, the Nova's 496 built powerplant is beautifully turned-out. Details of the engine build and a separate listing of all performance-related parts installed by California-based Current Auto Performance (http://currentautoperformance.com) are presented in a binder included in the sale. (Key pages are shown in the photo gallery.) Trimmed with a chrome air cleaner cover and finned valve covers, the engine is spotlessly clean and correct. The entire engine bay is similarly tidy with all wiring and hoses properly routed. The Wilwood® brake booster's zinc finish sparkles. MSD® electronic ignition is mounted. Viewed from below, the car's chassis is clean, and well ordered. The eye is drawn to the custom exhaust headers and full-length, custom, racing-style dual-exhaust system with crossover pipe. There is no sign of chassis or component damage, and only the barest minimum of surface rust on some untreated metal.

The car's identification and data tags remain in place. The binder of record referred to above is included in the sale.
While the more than 120 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '70 Nova in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.

The fortunate next owner of this Nova “496” can expect compliments from, and conversations with admirers aplenty. After all, this is a muscle-car dream in the metal. Even a trip to the drive-in or a Sunday morning cruise is almost certain to draw spectators. The car is that special.
