“If cars were objects of art... Jaguar would probably be the world's most admired manufacturer.” – New York Times, February 1998

The New York Times review continued: “Jaguars are more about graceful shapes, supple ride comfort and classic drawing room-type cabins. The new XJ8 has all those virtues, but its new V8 is also terrific. It's smooth and light and compact. The only downside is fuel consumption, which can be worryingly immoderate if pushed. The German-built ZF automatic transmission is smooth enough, if not quite as quick-shifting and seamless as the better BMW or Mercedes engine-transmission combinations… The ride quality is outstanding, and the handling is surprisingly assured too, considering the car's bulk.”

Offered here is a 1998 Jaguar XJ.8 L (long-wheelbase) in British Racing Green over tan leather. Showing 119,467 miles on its odometer, the big Jaguar has traveled just under 5,200 miles per-year on average since new. Carfax records show consistent, routine, professional service over the XJ8's life. As the car's exemplary condition clearly shows, this is a properly cared-for, lovingly maintained, two-owner, European uber-luxury automobile, as beautiful today as it was the day it was first delivered.

The exterior deep-green paint retains its showroom finish, properly glossy and free of damage; however, there is rust bubbling under the rear tail lights. It was the perfect choice on the long-cabin design considered by many to be among the most beautiful Jaguar sedans ever assembled. All the tastefully restrained chrome trim, cabin glass, lighting lenses, and factory badging remain in place and in excellent condition. Factory 16x7-inch alloy wheels are mounted with Kelly® Edge all-season performance tires. The classically British design of this long-wheelbase Jaguar saloon is truly timeless and remains striking today.

Inside, abundant Connolly leather in tan trims doors, dashboards, console, multifunction steering wheel, and seating surfaces. (Only the driver's seat cushion shows any sign of use.) Walnut trim enhances the four doors, dashboard, and console (home to the automatic-transmission gated shift lever). Luxury features abound, from rear heated seats to premium audio. The "L" model delivers near-limousine space for rear passengers. The surface condition of the leather, every touch-control, every interior feature retains a like-new look and feel.

Under the front-hinged hood, the stock, 4-liter Jaguar V8 lurks under slightly sinister-looking engine and component trim in black. The engine bay is clean, complete, and free of any indication of modifications. Viewed from below, the chassis is in order and undamaged. Surface rust is present on untreated metal components.

While the more than 110 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this Jaguar XJ8 L in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.

The New York Times reviewer summarized the XJ8: “It does feel special. It wafts along majestically, cosseting you in a driving environment from an earlier and more pampered era. And, with the new engine and Ford-inspired quality updates, it is now quiet and fast and well-made, a car that starts to make some practical sense instead of one that purely fuels your passions.”
