“Iconic '32 Ford is a Hot Rodder's Dream Platform” – The Engine Block website, December 2017]

The Engine Block website called it this way: “Such timeless cars typically have three things in common: beautiful styling, thrilling performance, and a pristine level of innovation. We'll argue this fact with anyone, but there is practically no greater classic hot-rodding superstar than the '32 Ford. The smooth American lines were attractive from the factory and downright sexy when tweaked by hot rodders. A flathead V8 engine finally gave the masses access to an affordable level of power. That's a significant milestone in automotive history. Its powerplant served as the mechanical foundation for imaginative gearheads wanting to go after competition victories and all-out speed records.”

Offered here is a respectfully restored, tastefully modified, and performance-enhanced 1932 Ford Sedan in gray over light gray. Rather than the more common “deuce coupe,” the choice of the sedan model made for this arguably more interesting build. The quality of the work is first-rate yet restrained, particularly on the exterior: no added flame graphics, no outlandish paint, no excessive body alterations. The car's odometer shows 52,300 miles.

The exterior gloss gray paint has been expertly applied. The finish is uniformly smooth with excellent luster and no sign of fading or other degradation. A very handsome double pinstripe in dark red surrounds the body. The sedan body and fenders are free of any damage, dents, or imperfections. The car's body has been lowered overall and raked slightly to the front. Chrome headlights, bumpers, side-mirror, front-grille trim, graceful headlight-mounting bar with “V8” emblem, windshield and beautifully original taillight trim all show bright, patina-free finishes. Red-painted original wire wheels with Ford-script-logo-embossed hubcaps, are mounted with Milestar® blackwall tires. There's an undeniable “Bonnie and Clyde” vibe to the look.

Inside, a number of custom and comfort upgrades have been fitted without abandoning the period look. New seats--both foldable front buckets and rear bench--upholstered in gray vinyl with matching crushed velour tufted fabric centers have been fitted. Door trim is also in gray vinyl with an appealing arched, art-deco design pattern. Floors feature charcoal-gray carpet matting. A wood-rimmed, brush-metal-trimmed sport steering wheel with blue-oval Ford emblem frames five, chrome-bezeled VDO® instruments horizontally laid out across the brushed-metal dashboard panel. To their right, an Adiovox® AM-FM-cassette unit is flush-mounted. In all, comfort, style, and a retained period-feel. The shift lever for the automatic transmission is located on the steering column.

Under the center-hinged hood, a fresh, 350-cubic-inch V8, enhanced with custom, forged, finned red valve covers, chrome custom air-cleaner cover, and custom exhaust headers makes for a powerfully engaging display. The engine bay is perfectly tidy and spotlessly clean. The car's firewall has been simplified and finished in the gray body paint. Viewed from below, the rack-and-pinion steering system, custom, full-length dual exhaust, perfectly clean lower sides of the automatic transmission and engine, and fully upgraded suspension components all compete for attention. The chassis is perfectly straight, undamaged, and complete. There is no rust.

While the more than 140 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '32 Ford Sedan in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.

The Drive Tribe website regarded '32 Fords this way: “When the Hot-Rodding craze was first getting its feet off of the ground, the looks of the car were secondary to the ease of making it go faster. Now we can appreciate the styling that was put into them from the factory and admire the ingenuity that allowed them to go faster. That's the spirit of Hot Rodding in one car! Keep on Cruisin'!”

That's as good an explanation as any for the strong appeal of this beautifully customized gray '32 Ford.
