“If the '63 Corvette Sting Ray was so good, why did we change it for '64?” – 1964 Corvette magazine advertisement

The copy in the ad went on to explain: “Almost nothing is so good it can't be improved—and the '64 Corvette Sting Ray (sic) proves it. That slippery aerodynamic shape is smoother. A broad sweep of glass gives the Sport Coupe's rear window better visibility. The cockpit enjoys new touches, from a simulated walnut-rimmed steering wheel to the Sport Coupe's interior ventilator that boosts air circulation. Corvette's ride is as taut as ever. Suspension refinements give it supple new comfort in city driving. We shut out road noise and shock with extra sound-deadening materials, new body and transmission mounts. And kept Corvette's roar alive with a choice of V8s from 290 up to 375 horsepower. Added a smoother new 4-speed shift... We rested on our laurels with 4-wheel fully independent suspension and features like retractable headlights. All these changes make Corvette an even better car for '64.”

Offered here is a '64 Corvette convertible in custom Butterscotch metallic over black. The car has been respectfully upgraded, refreshed, and improved for 21st Century driving, without sacrificing the character of this legendary American sportscar. Showing 105,627 miles on its odometer, or just 1,850 mile per-year on average since new, this Stingray (or “Sting Ray” as the ad put it) is ready for new roads, new adventures, and lots more open-air fun.

The metallic Butterscotch exterior paint—a respray in this custom color color—was a perfect choice to highlight the many unique and appealing design cues on the car. The overall body shape, the sculpted hood, the reverse cut-outs on the front fenders, the raised fender tops front and rear all show beautifully. Paint gloss is excellent and perfectly uniform throughout, including on lower-body surfaces. There is no body damage, no fading, no discoloration. A white “stinger” hood graphic complements the car's white-fabric convertible top. Factory badging—including the crossed flags on the front fenders, hood, and rear gas-filler cover—is all in place, properly located, and in excellent condition. In similar fashion, chrome half-bumpers front and rear retain excellent surface finish; other chrome trim is equally well-kept. Side-exit exhausts with safety covers are mounted. The lower front grille is undamaged. Cabin glass and lighting lenses are clear and free of imperfections. American Legend® 17-inch aluminum racing wheels with Corvette-flag-logo center caps are pristine. Nexen® CP671 blackwall P215/55 tires are mounted.

Inside, the black upholstery is in near-perfect condition. The vertically pleated design is classic. The matching black dash showcases the twin-pod design unique to the C2 Corvette. The original “simulated wood-rimmed” steering wheel (with brushed metal trim and Corvette crossed-flags center emblem) frames the driver-focused array of analog instruments, dominated by the 160-mph speedometer and 5,300-rpm-redline tachometer. Between the dash pods, the gracefully designed "center drop" features an analog clock above pull-lever controls for heat and ventilation, and the vertically-mounted push-button Delco AM-FM radio beloved by vintage-Corvette fans. Facing the passenger is the brushed-metal panel on the glove-box cover and the script “Corvette Sting Ray” badge. The center console houses the chrome-top shifter for the converted 5-speed manual transmission, with the new shift pattern displayed on the brushed metal trim to its rear. Door trim complements the upholstery and includes roll-up window cranks, stereo speakers, pull-knob door handle, armrest, and original chrome trim. The lower portions of the door panel are carpeted in black, matching the cabin carpeting. Lower door-jamb “step over” plates are free of damage.

Under the front-hinged hood, the 327 cubic-inch, 300-horsepower V8 rests under its chrome, Chevrolet-embossed air-cleaner cover. The engine block is correctly painted. Edelbrock® forged valve covers are in place. The engine bay is clean and tidy. Hoses and wiring are all properly routed; all auxiliary components are present and correctly mounted. Viewed from below, the car's chassis is complete and undamaged. Front and rear disc brakes are visible. Suspension upgrades with VBP® ('Vette Brakes and Products) parts, AOS® cross members, Bilstein® rear shock absorbers, and more can also be seen. Side-exit dual exhausts are a focal point.

The Corvette's original build tag and identification plates remain properly riveted in place. The original owner's manual accompanies the car.

While the more than 150 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '64 Corvette in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.

This beautiful C2 Corvette Convertible is ready to delight its next owner. Weekend cruise-ins, Corvette Club meet-ups, and wind-in-your-hair fall drives all await. The butterscotch 'Vette's upgrades will make every drive--short or long, slow or fast, on the interstate or the twisties--a total blast. The collector-car authority, Hemmings, put it this way: “If you're looking for a beautiful mid-year Corvette… a '63 or '64 Corvette is the way to go.”
