“Among the most athletic luxury SUVs available” Automobile Magazine 2013 test-drive notes

Car and Driver described the BMW luxury SUV's athleticism on the road this way: “Even laden with heavy extras like a panoramic sunroof and 20-inch wheels wrapped in wide rubber—315 mm in the rear—our X5 xDrive35i tester hustled to 60 in six seconds flat. The quarter-mile takes 14.7 seconds, at which point the X5 is humming along at 92 mph. In all circumstances, the 300-hp N55 shines, particularly around town, where the nearly immediate availability of its 300 lb-ft of torque makes for effortless acceleration during L.A.'s famous stop-and-go slogs.”

Offered here is a 2013 BMW X5 35i in Black Sapphire over Nevada Black. This is a well-maintained SUV fresh from a recent comprehensive service including replacement of all six ignition coil packs. The odometer reads 119,267 miles, or just under 15,000 miles per-year on average, which is actually considered the average per-year mileage by the automotive trade. This all-wheel-drive SUV's extensive full option list (it may take a few moments to load) can be found by cutting and pasting this link: https://www.mdecoder.com/decode/5uxzv4c5xd0b20418

In addition to design excellence, BMW has many manufacturing strengths. Paintwork is high on that list. Here, the quality of the Sapphire Black metallic paint clearly supports that reputation. Across the entire body, the paint quality is excellent; the subtle but satisfying effects of the metallic finish can be seen on every surface. Even gloss, a hint of the metallic sparkle (noticeably different from the far more common non-metallic black), and not a flaw to be found. Another advantage of black shows here: it's a color that allows shiny metallic body trim to “pop" visually. In this case, that means the classic BMW kidney-shaped front grilles, handsomely incorporated, side-entry-assist “running boards,” the bright-metal window trim showcasing the famed “Hofmeister kink” historic BMW design of the roofline where it meets the rear fender, 20-inch 10-spoke wheels, even the taillight design and BMW emblem on the center-ear. The effect is striking. On this X5, there is no body damage nor any noticeable signs of wear anywhere on the exterior. Headlight lenses are perfectly clear, the grilles and fascia show no road rash, side-mirror caps are free of chips, cabin glass (including the panoramic glass sunroof) is similarly unmarked, and the tailgate area (note the clever 2-piece operation) is free of wear. In the same way, the finish on the alloy wheels (mounted with Bridgestone Dueler® all-season performance tires) is unmarred by curb damage.

Inside the same high level of care is obvious on all the cabin surfaces. In particular, the Nevada black leather upholstery is in outstanding, virtually flawless condition. In the same way, the dashboard, console, instruments, and switchgear (including the rear-seat HVAC controls) is exceptional. Lenses on the driver-focused analog instruments are clear, and all graphic markings are crisp and unmarred. Even the console-mounted shift lever (with lighted indicators) for the automatic transmission, and the twist-knob interface for the iDrive driver-information system are free of wear (which can easily arise from jewelry). The rich burled-wood trim on the dash and all doors is likewise un-scarred. This high level of condition is only seen in vehicles owned by fastidious people.

Under the hood, the 300-horsepower, 3.0-liter twin-turbo straight-six engine is the product of BMW's 6-cylinder-development expertise amassed over more than a half-century. Here the engine-bay surfaces exhibit the same level of cleanliness and owner-care as noted on the X5's interior and exterior. “Like new” is no exaggeration, and the SUV's recent service supports to that impression. Viewed from below, the chassis is complete, clean, and free of any indication of damage or extensive off-road use. All original underbody-protection covers remain mounted. Only light surface rust is present, and only on some untreated metal components.

While the more than 140 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this BMW X5 XDrive 35i in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.

“…properly quick and as engaging as a BMW ought to be” was the way Car and Driver summarized their impression of the 2013 BMW X5 Xdrive35i. High praise from tough automotive critics. This beautifully kept BMW X5's next owner should be delighted.
