“Sierra Wins Intellichoice® Award for the Best Overall Value in Its Class” – 1997 GMC Truck magazine-advertisement headline

The ad referred to above went on: “The Intellichoice Award is particularly meaningful because it's based on the true value of a pickup: the cost of owning it for five years. Purchase price, depreciation, insurance, maintenance, and fuel costs were all calculated. And our Sierra was judged best in its class.” The Sierra was largely unchanged for the 1998 model year.

Offered here is an excellent, one-owner example of this award-winning value: a 1998 GMC Sierra K1500 extended cab, shortbed, 4-wheel-drive in white-and-tan over tan. The truck's odometer shows 47,246 miles, or just over 2,000 miles per-year on average. The overall exceptional condition of the pickup shows what can result from a single owner's commitment to care and regular servicing.

The pickup's white paint retains its original shine across every body panel, including the cargo box and tailgate. The lower body's tan paint and stripe is virtually factory-perfect, as are the “4x4” graphics on the rear fenders. Chrome bumpers, grille trim, and factory-installed five-spoke, 16-inch alloy wheels (part of the optional SLT package) mounted with Yokohama Geolander® tires are all in excellent condition. Lighting lenses are clear and un-cracked, and cabin glass is similarly free of damage. All factory emblems—including the “GMC” badges in the front grille and tailgate (as well as the “Sierra” badge) remain mounted. The cargo bed features “GM Commercial” branded protective coverings as well as a soft mat. A hitch-receiver and electrical connections for a trailer are mounted below the rear step bumper. Added (and removable) Lund® running boards assist entry to the cabin.

The truck's interior condition is exemplary. The light-tan leather upholstery on the high-back seats has been meticulously maintained; only light creasing is present on the front-seat cushions. The storage compartment/armrest is as-new. The foldable rear seat appears never to have been sat upon. All other interior surfaces are undamaged, free of noteworthy signs of wear, and absolutely no sign of damage. In the same way, the tan carpeting is clean and very well-kept. The truck's dash (also tan) features driver-focused instruments together with controls for the audio system (with CD) and the HVAC controls (the air conditioning system blows cold) located on the righthand side, surrounded by black for easy legibility. All instrument and control markings are clear and crisp, appearing virtually like new. Power window and door-lock controls are mounted on the beautifully maintained door trim. The automatic-transmission shifter is column-mounted while the transfer-case lever is floor-mounted. The cabin headliner is free of damage or discoloration and properly affixed.

Under the hood, the venerable 5.7-liter GMC V8—the powerplant in millions of GM trucks—is centerstage in a well-maintained, extremely clean engine bay. All related components are properly mounted; all wiring and engine-cooling hoses properly routed. The engine has clearly benefited from regular servicing. Viewed from below, the chassis is complete and undamaged. Components are properly installed and original.

While the more than 145 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this GMC Sierra K1500 in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.

One owner… excellent original condition… 4 wheel-drive… leather… extended cab… SLT package... GMC Sierra. This Jimmy checks a lot of boxes on the most-wanted pickup list. The next owner can expect to enjoy, not only the truck, but the admiration of other pickup aficionados.
