“The 1975 Cadillac Eldorado was one of the world's most dramatically styled automobiles.” – NotoriousLuxury.com website, July 2014

The website writers continued: “The 1975 Eldorado was also available as the only luxury convertible built in America. It was a dramatic synthesis of two motoring worlds: the panache of a convertible, and the superlative luxury of being a Cadillac. Its ingenious inward-folding roof provided full-width rear seating and a neater profile with the roof folded. The optional color-coordinated parade boot was trim and unobtrusive to the convertible's appeal. With the top down, the architecture of this car looked as though it spanned for miles.”

They also addressed the rarity of the Eldorado offered here: “Only 8,950 1975 Eldorado convertibles were built making it more collectible than the 'Last Cadillac production convertible' for the 1976 model year with 14,000 being built.”

In Detroit parlance, these were always “loaded” luxury automobiles: “Standard equipment for the 1975 Cadillac Eldorados included: AM/FM Signal Seeking Stereo radio with automatic power antenna, power windows and door locks, Automatic Climate Control w/economy setting, tinted glass, 6-way power seat, and white-wall steel-belted radials. Also standard were Automatic Level Control, a power, fully automatic inward-folding fabric roof, Variable Ratio Power steering, power brakes with front discs, and Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission."

Offered here in Mandarin Orange over tan/medium brown leather is a 1975 Cadillac Eldorado that demonstrates exactly what “Standard of the World” meant: large, luxurious, and 100% unapologetic. Showing just 55,384 miles on the odometer, or roughly 1,200 miles per-year on average, this is a cruise-worthy example in excellent overall condition.

The car's striking exterior original color adds its own exclamation point to this American beauty. The finish is uniformly shiny across the entire body. Panel-fit lines are excellent, and all body panels are free of damage. The bespoke chrome Cadillac grille--with quad rectangular headlights incorporated—shines beautifully; it is an impressive sight viewed head-on. Other brightwork—including windshield trim, Cadillac-branded side mirrors, bodyside trim, door handles, and rear bumper--exhibits the same condition. Twin, white paint stripes accent the design's horizontal lines and meet on the rear decklid. Cabin glass is clear and undamaged; the white fabric, power-operated convertible top is similarly free of imperfections. All badging and emblems are present in their factory-affixed locations. Brushed-metal full wheel covers (with Cadillac logos) and thin-stripe whitewall tires are mounted.

Inside, the car is a mix of men's club gentility and rock-star excess. The tufted, square-panel design leather upholstery wears a perfect patina; its promise of comfort positively beckons. The car's expansive dashboard is framed by the orange steering wheel with the Cadillac logo in its center; wood trim extends across to the passenger side. The automatic-transmission shifter in column-mounted. A Clarion® audio head unit has been added in the factory-radio location.

Under the hood, the massive 500 cubic-inch V8 powerplant fills a well-kept, clean engine bay. All components are properly mounted.

While the more than 155 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '75 Eldorado Convertible in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. The oft-heard bromide “They don't make 'em like this anymore” was never more appropriately applied than it is to this '75 Eldorado convertible. Chances are, we'll never see its like again. Riding aboard this luxurious land yacht conveys a confidence in the goodness of all things American, and an experience of luxury that can no longer be found among today's techno-enriched, mega-bucks automobiles. This car's next owner will feel what “large and in charge” means, every time they get behind the wheel. Sidewalk onlookers will gawk and whisper their admiration. Does it get any better than that? Probably not.
