“Chevrolet Blazer… Best all-around sports vehicle on the road… or off” -1972 Chevrolet Blazer dealer brochure

In the early Seventies, when only men would buy such a vehicle (because, as the copywriter put it, the wife preferred a car!), the Blazer dealer-brochure went on to explain what would later be called an SUV: “Not just over an old logging road and through two streams to get back where the big fish are. But to the office, grocery shopping, the dentist and anywhere else you need to go. Because that's Blazer. All the comfort and driving ease of the kind of family car your wife likes. And all the toughness and utility of the kind of pickup you can use.”

Offered here in bright yellow over black, with a black fabric cargo-area top, is a just-restored '72 K5 Blazer bound to attract attention. The truck's blend of original form with added comfort and present-day convenience makes for an appealing go-anywhere sport vehicle.

The newly applied yellow body paint shows the quality of a professional who knew their way around a paint booth: smooth, consistent gloss across the body, with no deviations. Yellow was an excellent choice to capture the fun and adventure Blazers regularly sought out. A broad, black-painted, lower-body section runs the length of the truck. The black soft top (with roll-up rear section) was a dealer-installed option back in the day. The dealer brochure claimed: “Goes up or down in two minutes.” This top is fresh and new with no signs of wear or use. (It's worth noting that while many Blazers came with a “removable hard top,” that fiberglass top weighed roughly 600 pounds.) Chrome bumpers are exceptionally nice; cabin glass and lighting lenses are clear and free of cracks. The “eggcrate” style 1972 grille was arguably the best-looking of the Blazer series, and nicely frames the blue bowtie emblem. Other factory emblems—notably including the early-style fender “K/5 Blazer” and “8-350” engine identification—remain in place. Aftermarket chrome wheels (with locking hubs up front) are mounted with Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT raised-white-letter all-terrain tires.

Inside, the yellow-and-black theme holds. Body-color yellow paint is featured on the dash panel, doors, and tailgate; black upholstery (with diamond-pattern center inserts), door inserts, carpeting, sport steering wheel, and roof complement the yellow. Upgraded bits include the nicely incorporated dash vents for air conditioning, center storage compartment with cupholders, updated gauge package, and Sony® audio head unit in the factory-radio location. The truck's automatic-transmission shifter is mounted on the steering column, while the four-wheel-drive transfer case selector is mounted on the floor.

Under the hood is the venerable 350-cubic-inch V8 wearing red engine-block and valve-cover paint beneath a triangular Edelbrock chrome air-cleaner cover with red highlights. The engine bay is exceptionally clean and tidy with all components—including air conditioning—properly mounted. There are no indications of damage from too-aggressive off-road driving styles.

The fully restored and upgraded condition of this special Blazer is faithfully presented from every angle (including from below) in the more than 145 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available at the GarageKeptMotors site. That said, we always encourage in-person, up-close inspections by interested parties—or their representatives—at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. We ask only that appointments be made in advance by phone or email so that we can devote our full attention to our visitors and this classic Blazer. Our showroom is not open to the public. We welcome any questions by email or phone.

This classic Blazer is ready to play a supporting role in its next owner's urban, suburban, or back-country adventures. Its classic looks and new, integrated comfort and convenience features blend the nostalgia for the classic Blazer good looks with 21st-Century livability. And that's a pretty compelling combination.
