“Porsche's well-balanced sports car” -Motor Trend 2017 Cayman Review, September 2017

In model year 2017, Porsche made news with the 718 Cayman S. Motor Trend reviewers noted: “The major change: a turbo flat-four replaces the flat-six Caymans have had since birth. Displacing just 2.5 liters, it pumps out a flat-six-beating 350 hp and 309 lb-ft of torque. Both manual and automatic transmissions are available…. With it comes a Sport Response button, which unleashes 20 seconds of sharper throttle response. Lift, and the throttle stays open with the fuel off to keep the turbo spinning. In addition to new chassis tuning, the rear suspension is wider, and the steering rack has been lifted from the 911 Turbo.”

So, how does it drive? The Motor Trend folks again: “The Cayman's boosted four is more than enough to get 3,190 pounds hustling. Zero to 60 mph happens in 3.6 seconds, and the quarter mile passes in 12 seconds flat at 114.9 mph. Braking from 60 mph requires only 99 feet. It'll rip off a 23.7-second figure-eight lap at 0.89 average g and pulls 1.01 average g on the skidpad.”

While it may seem something of a slight to Porsche's legendary 911, the reality is, the Cayman S has become many a Porsche fan's favorite offering from the Zuffenhausen-based brand.

Presented here is a 2017 Cayman S in Graphite Blue Metallic over standard black leather. This is a low-mileage (under 11,000 miles per-year on average), one-owner example, as verified by its Carfax report linked here. The exceptional condition of the car, inside and out, makes it clear that its sole owner loved this 718 Cayman S.

The Porsche community frequently waxes eloquent about any of “the Porsche blues.” This car's Graphite Blue Metallic paint retains its factory luster evidencing Porsche's legendary paint-application expertise. There are no noticeable flaws across the entire body. Even front-facing body surfaces are virtually free of even minor road damage. Black exterior trim, black model designation, high-gloss-black factory wheels, twin center-exit black exhaust tips, and black-tinted glass all perfectly complement the Graphite Blue; the look is part “serious performance,” part “sensuous.” The only flash of contrasting color? The red brake calipers and the Porsche crest on the hood and wheel center-caps.

Inside, the black-leather upholstery and “S” model sport features in black—with minimal, but attractive brushed-metal trim—make this a serious driver's dream environment. The 6-speed manual transmission shifter adds emphasis to that point. The desirable “S” steering wheel frames a full array of instruments. (Be sure to watch them come alive on startup in the linked video). Audio, HVAC controls, and backup camera operate through the center screen, forward of the console. Black carpeting covers the cabin floors, protected by matching, Porsche-logo-embroidered carpet mats. For one of the most reliable indicators of the car's overall condition, be sure to look closely at the gallery photos showing the body-painted “step-over” area on the lower door jamb. Keeping them as pristine as they are here takes the owner's commitment and constant vigilance.

The front and rear carpeted cargo areas almost appear to have never carried any cargo.

Viewed from below, the Cayman's drag-defeating panels cover the chassis almost completely, except for limited views of the lower side of the engine, and the exhaust system in the rear. Most of all, none of the protective underbody panels shows any evidence or damage that might be expected from an overly aggressive driving style. The car was never tracked and remains 100% original from the factory, minus tasteful window tint and clear front side markers added for a more European look.

While the more than 135 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '17 Porsche 718 Cayman S in great detail, we encourage in-person inspections by interested parties or their representatives at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call in advance to arrange an appointment, or get in touch by phone or email if you have any questions. Our showroom is not open to the public.

The BBC's Top Gear site put it flatly: “The Cayman is still just about the best car in the class to drive.” The Cayman S offered here is ready to demonstrate the truth of that assertion again and again, to the wide-smile delight of its next fortunate owner.
