“The C4 represented a complete overhaul of nearly every aspect of the car.” -Motor Trend, August 2019

The writers at Motor Trend continued: “(The C4 Corvettes) were highly advanced compared to their domestic peers and even outperformed some of their European counterparts. This was due to a complete overhaul of nearly every aspect of the car done by a new team of engineers and designers, who all had a new mantra to follow. You get the theme, right? It's all about new, new, new.” As to the design: “The C4 was one of the most seamless looking cars of the time, which was achieved in part via a rub strip that circled the entire car. It hid the clam-shell hood gap in the front of the car as well as the main seam in the fiberglass bodywork. GM also subjected the car to wind tunnel testing to maximize aerodynamic efficiency, the first time GM had done any testing of the sort.” From a power standpoint, the optional 330-horsepower, 350 cubic-inch V8 (code LT4) was the preferred option choice.

Offered here in Torch-Red-over-black is one of just 6,359 LT4-(GrandSport)-equipped Corvettes manufactured for the 1996 model year. It also features the desirable 6-speed manual transmission. Showing just 20,000 miles—or roughly 800 miles per-year on average—this is a lightly used and very well cared-for sports car. Its factory-applied window sticker showing the car's original $42,000 retail price is included in the sale.

The exterior of the car shows virtually no signs of wear, damage, or inconsiderate driving. Even the lower portion of the front valence is free of parking-lot scrapes. The Torch Red paint retains a factory-quality shine throughout. The removable moonroof is pristine. All emblems and Corvette badging is in place. The five-spoke Corvette-branded alloy wheels are free of obvious damage; Continental ExtremeContact performance tires are mounted. All lighting lenses are free of cracks; the pop-up headlights function flawlessly; cabin glass—including the rear hatch glass—is free of any sign of damage.

Inside, the classic black-leather upholstery is free of rips or tears. The well-bolstered sports seats are both comfortable and functional. The car's dashboard shows no evidence of fading or sun-damage. The Corvette-branded airbag-equipped steering wheel frames driver-oriented gauges—both digital and analog—featuring clear lenses; all gauges work as they should. The optional Delco-Bose stereo remains in its factory location without added aftermarket modifications. Wear-free black carpeting covers the cabin floor extending through the rear cargo area; Grand Sport-embroidered black carpet mats are in place.

Under the front-hinged hood, the 5.7-liter LT4 Grand Sport engine is displayed in a showroom-condition, modification-free engine bay. There has been no over-detailing here, just near-perfect original surface finishes. Viewed from below, the car's chassis is similarly free of any signs of wear or damage from over-enthusiastic driving. No rust is evident, even on the dual exhaust components.

The condition of this 1996 Corvette coupe is faithfully presented from every angle (including from below) in the more than 155 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available at the GarageKeptMotors site. That said, we always encourage in-person, up-close inspections by interested parties at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. We ask only that advance appointments be made by phone or email so that we can devote our full attention to our visitors and this beautiful C4 Corvette. Our showroom is not open to the public. We welcome questions by way of email or phone contact.

It's a true statement that virtually every Corvette ever produced is a special automobile. Among all the various model years equipment specifications, of course, some Corvettes do stand apart. Given its history as a “great leap forward” model, its Grand Sport engine, and its superb condition, this particular Corvette is one of those stand-apart examples. Its next owner will no doubt continue bestowing the meticulous care the car has seen through its first 25 years, as well as enjoying being behind the wheel of this American classic.
