“Like a Rock.” – Long-running 1990s advertising campaign for Chevy Trucks.
A 1991 magazine ad (citing the C1500 Chevy pickup as a Consumer Digest Best Buy) in that legendary advertising campaign was headlined: “You don't get to be America's favorite half-ton pickup on looks alone." The copy went on to cite the 1991 truck's bigger cab with better visibility, increased standard horsepower, higher payload, heavier frame, and the highest 2WD full-size pickup gas mileage. There was a lot to like about the '91 Chevy pickups beyond “looks alone.” But these pickups were definitely at the top of the list on looks, too.
Offered here is an especially good-looking '91 C1500 “short-bed” pickup in silver over medium blue. The truck benefits from light custom touches that both respect the classic design, and add to its personality. Having traveled just 69,000 miles—roughly 2,300 miles per-year on average—this has been a gently used truck over its life, as its current condition verifies.
Outside, the silver paint was an especially good choice for the smooth-sided design. While many pickups of this era wore two-tone paint, the unbroken expanse of silver here makes the most of the Nineties look. A thin, full-length, double-line tape stripe in black, combined with the lower body trim, emphasizes the horizontal flow of the truck's now classic design. Across the entire truck, the paint is uniformly glossy and free of damage. (The floor of the cargo bed shows only minimal evidence of light-duty hauling.) Cabin glass is lightly tinted; lighting lenses are clear and undamaged. Smoked taillight lenses have been added. The most noticeable appearance upgrade is the addition of US Mag wheels (in pristine condition), a handsome, “twin ring” split-spoke design, mounted with low-profile performance tires. The truck's factory chrome trim is all in place, as are all factory badges and identification (including the “Chevrolet” tailgate lettering in black). All chrome—including the front grille (with black bowtie emblem) and both front and rear bumpers—Is in pristine condition. A custom, roll-up cargo-bed cover in black adds a finished touch to the truck.
Inside, the blue-patterned fabric upholstery on the bench seat and lower door trim has obviously been well-maintained; there are no rips, tears, or significant signs of wear. The same is the case for the blue cabin carpeting (protected by rubber floor mats). The dashboard includes all stock features, instruments, and controls; the truck is equipped with air conditioning and roll-up windows (the latter often preferred for lack of maintenance issues). The black, factory, Chevrolet-branded steering wheel overlooks the driver-oriented instruments and controls as well as the blue, damage-free dashboard. The factory-installed radio also remains in place.
Under the hood, the engine bay is spotless; the 350 cubic-inch V8 couldn't have looked nicer when it was on the showroom floor. All components are properly mounted without modifications. (Service receipts for maintenance work on the truck are included in the sale.) The dual exhaust is properly routed and shows no damage from over-aggressive driving styles. The brake calipers on the front disc brakes are painted red (yet another sign of owner pride in this truck).
The well-maintained, original condition of this '91 pickup is faithfully presented from every angle (including from below) in the more than 130 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available at the GarageKeptMotors site. That said, we always encourage in-person, up-close inspections by interested parties—or their representatives—at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. We ask only that advance appointments be made by phone or email so that we can devote our full attention to our visitors and this well-maintained truck. Our showroom is not open to the public. Please feel free to get in touch by email or phone to ask any questions.
The popularity of pickup trucks has only grown since this '91 was built. As always, the best advice for acquiring a 30 year-old truck is to secure one that has been gently used and properly serviced through the years. With both these criteria met, and with its attractive, light custom touches, this silver C1500 represents a prime candidate.
