“Still the quintessential sports car after four decades, the 2008 Porsche 911 has a unique blend of style, performance and sound that you can enjoy everyday.” -Edmunds

The sentiment expressed by Edmunds above is broadly shared across the automotive press. Of the 2008 911, Autoblog said: “Driving a Porsche 911 is a thrill.... Its overall performance is extraordinary.” They went on to detail the car's equipment: “The Porsche 911 (2008) lineup starts with the Carrera ($72,400), powered by a 3.6-liter version of Porsche's classic flat six-cylinder engine generating 325 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. Standard equipment includes leather-trimmed height-adjustable seats with power recliners, a digital AM/FM/CD stereo, trip computer, leather telescoping steering wheel, power windows, power locks with keyless remote, cruise control, 18-inch wheels and a speed-dependent retractable rear spoiler.”

As to the automatic transmission, NewCarDrive noted: “Other than a brief downshift delay when coming out of curves, the Tiptronic operates impressively.” All Carrera trims also featured the Porsche Stability Management (PSM), which monitors driver inputs and employs selective braking in order to avoid oversteer and understeer.

Offered here is a 2008 base Carrera coupe in Guards red over black leather. Although across the 911's long history, Guards red paint was among the longest-running exterior choices, it was quite rare on the 2008 997-series cars. This 911 was originally imported to an Illinois Porsche dealer, and subsequently sold to its first owner in Michigan. Its Carfax report (link available at the GarageKeptMotors site) documents consistent and comprehensive dealer-supplied maintenance over its life. At just over 30,000 total miles, the car's 2,500 miles per-year average indicates it was respected by owners who enjoyed it as a special-use sports car.

Porsche's legendary paint quality is in ample evidence on this example. The finish displays a factory-fresh luster across the entire car, from its un-drilled front fascia to its speed-activated rear spoiler. Even on its undercarriage, there is no evidence of the car being used on winter roads, and virtually zero rust. All other exterior surfaces—cabin and lighting glass, emblems, trim, desirable “lobster fork” 5-spoke wheels (mounted with Bridgestone performance tires), dual chrome exhaust tips—are all in excellent condition and without any obvious flaw.

Inside, the heralded 911 driver's orientation is obvious, and here, too, overall condition is very good. The black leather upholstery shows only light wear, with the exception of the driver seat's outside bolster where the leather has succumbed to entry-and-exit wear. Otherwise, the instrumentation, dashboard, headliner, rear-seat area, door trim, and carpeting are all free of damage or significant wear. Surfaces on the operating controls—including the Tiptronic shifter, heating and air-conditioning, factory audio system, left-side ignition and headlight switch—are free of scratches and wear.

Under the rear hood, unlike in later 911 models, the 3.6-liter horizontal-6 cylinder engine (capable of 0-60 times of 4.9 seconds) here is not covered in black-plastic shrouding. It is easily accessible for owner-performed servicing, as well as simply to enjoy its aesthetics. The engine bay, like the car's front cargo trunk, is clean and properly ordered. Overall, this “base” Carrera model shows just how much engineering, technology, and build-quality comes standard in a 911.

The condition of this beautiful '08 911 Carrera is faithfully presented from every angle (including from below) in the more than 155 high-definition photographs, the short walk-around-and-startup video, and the link to its accident-free, low-mileage Carfax report, all available at the GarageKeptMotors site. That said, we always encourage in-person, up-close inspections by interested parties at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. We ask only that advance appointments be made by phone or email so that we can devote our full attention to our visitors and this well maintained Guards red 911. Our showroom is not open to the public.

Quoting Autoblog again on the 2008 car: “You will not find a sports car with better overall balance than the Porsche 911... and you will not find a true high-performance machine that is easier to live with as daily transportation.”

Dare we say it? Look no further.
